The author of coinops "BP" is expanding and calling for devs to work with in moving VISION and CoinOPS onto other platforms...  I help release CoinOPS to the public and have done for almost 3 years... I also create game packs and offer help when needed.

It is an awesome bit of kit and would help GCW0's  reach a much wider audience not just the hardcore retro gamers.... The reason CoinOPS and VISION are so popular is because of the pickup and play, no config, no messing etc etc...

Please read the thread I have linked  http://coinopsproject.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=0&t=1425

Imagine this on the GCW0... If an xbox 1 can do then GCW0 would do it EASY !!!!

VISION  This is the beta.... the full version I released can do ALL major consoles and computers

I have all the Artwork, Videos etc etc and would be happy to assemble a team to create game packs for this...

then the user just adds the roms...

A couple of questions:
* What language is it written in?
* What libraries does it use?
* Is the source code available?

If this is written in XNA and uses DX for video, it is nearly impossible to port it to a mips-linux system.

I will be honest... I have no idea... what I know about coding is nothing... I just release this to the public that's it...
However I will ask BP the questions you have asked me and report back.

Yes I can...

VISIONARY is a dashboard interface that has emulators built in.... it can not only launch any xbox application / emulator for xbox / or xbox game, homebrew it can also launch emuated games direct...

It gives it a nice Hyperspin style look on an old xbox 1 running 64MB RAM, something many though & said was not possible... until now :) so image this running on GCW0, Ouya, or any other system with more RAM and a faster CPU :)

Imagine it in your pocket... Hyperspin  in your pocket, on the bus, train, lunch break at work... wireless 2player maybe who know... I am not a Dev, but I have followed this project for many years and I have a little involvement on getting out to people...

WHen the author BP (Britanys Pairs) decided to open up to other platform and work with other dev I though of GCW0 and the great things it could do getting GCW to a wider range of users, thus making it the MUST HAVE handheld and retro device on the market PERIOD ! :)

I have no idea if it can be done or if justin and his team are even interested, but as a user the idea of coinops on the move was exciting....

I hope this helps a little, if not Visit our community and see what we are about :) (PS I am also a SE zero customer) ;)

Zear,

I have asked your questions... here ais what BP has said :)

Yes search goole for coinops svn....if you want later let me know.....but first I dont want tire kickers....

this is very fast old cores that can run on low hardware with most new games working...speed hacks etc....this isnt the default cores out of the box.....years of work by experienced coders has gone into this.....

VISION is written in C++ and can be ported to linux or PC or apple very easily......its not great against PC but its up there and will beat nearly anything with limited ram and cpu speed.....this is the beauty of it.....

A quick guess:
The app itself: I suppose that will be about 10-20MB, keeping in mind that it contains several emulator cores.
The artwork and videos: Surely some hundreds of MB for the full pack.
The roms: Several Gigabytes.

Anyway, if this can be ported to the GCW0, it would be a great app to show off the device to friends and make their jaws drop...

I don't like it. I don't want yet another bloatware... We tried very hard to keep everything "smart and simple", this won't change anytime soon. Plus, shipping emulator cores with the device is something we don't want to do.

But feel free to port it yourself.

I think you misunderstood....

I wasn't suggesting shipping it with the device either...  I am sure porting this would take months... I was suggesting that it might help attract different people to the GCW0.... A glossy finish all in one app might help GCW0 achieve even more commercial success...

Coinops is all about "Smart and Simple" that is the point of it... VISION is just a launcher

Its not about being bloatware... Its about not having to configure and setup loads of stuff to play a game...

It was just an idea ;)

It is about showcasing the GCW0 and making people want one that would normal say "who cares"

As for size... GCW0 has LOADS of space and power that should be utilized... why have 16GB if your not going to use it? Most people want there GCW0 for games... Why not make it look better :)

anyway, again just an idea ;)

Hyperspin is java based and the artwork and videos take up a ton of space. Trust me my mame cabinet runs it and hyperspin alone is taking 2tb. Hyperpin uses autohotkey to launch emulators now as well so that would also be an issue as not all the same emulators that hyperspin and coinops run have been ported to the gcw0 so all new scripts would have to be written. Not to mention that everything would look horrible at 320x240. And last but not least coinops is illegal since it actually comes with ROMS

Then, what about just porting MAME 0.72 or 0.84?

True, it released like that for those who do not know where to get the roms... However Standalone versions are released for those who not interested in downloading with the roms...

As for the artwork and stuff used in hyperspin art can be used in otherways... I would just have my all time top 30 games for each system looking nice... we all have full rom sets but lets face it, we all go back to same childhood favs we played years ago.... I have about 20,000 games but actually play less than 300 or so :)

Many argue the emulators \ bioses used are illegal too but I wont go into that one ;)

As I said, it was just an idea :)  On a plus note, one of my threads has never had so much action  ;D I guess controversy is powerful lol... anywho il shut up now  :-X ;)
