System Shock and other dosbox questions
« on: May 10, 2014, 07:00:13 am »
Hello,

Brand new here.  Just got my GCW-zero today and I have no previous experience with open-source systems, emulation etc.  I really liked the GCW-zero because of its ability to play classic PC games, but those seem to be the hardest to play.

1.  Is there any chance of system shock working on the gcw0?  I know it's not technically open source but I know it run in dosbox, so if you own the game it might work.  The controls are so archaic though so I'm not sure.

2.  How do I get dos games working?  I assume I can't just load up any old game.

Sorry I know these might not be the best questions to ask, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

System Shock requires a gazillion of buttons (compared to GCW Zero). Well maybe not gazillion, but still I doubt you'd get that good gameplay on the GCW Zero with it =).

Also, for DOS games, you'll probably get good gameplay only on the more simpler (older) ones. The GCW Zero can only emulate something 386'ish - 486 33MHz'ish (not sure if triple buffering will help) - for example, Mortal Combat is slow except at the lowest detail level. Also, there's the issue with mouse emulation (or the lack of a proper mouse hardware).
My Hocoslamfy highscore: 107. Also try Freedroid for GCW0!
