This great loophole also works for other games that aren't booting on the new firmware. Got Descent 2 and Streets of Rage Remake running using the same technique (haven't tried any others yet but I'd imagine the results would be similar).

I tried this with Descent 2 even before I read your post, then again after, but couldn't get it to work.  I tried both the d2xlauncher file AND the d2s-rebirth files but it just returned to GMenu2X screen...  what did I do wrong?  Likely I've located an older version of Descent 2 than you.  It just happened to me with the Anomaly web browser.  The version I had didn't work with the 5-4 firmware, but the link someone gave me here did work...

You lazy! Go package all of that in OPKs :)

thanks pickle! =)
just got quake 3 booted up, and even was able to run the dark conjunction single-player mod.

no .opk? thats ok. for ppl wanting to get it going,
uncompress the ioquake3_gcw.tar.gz, then edit the ioquake3.mips by removing the extension so you have ioquake3. this will allow gmenu to see the file. then just add it manually per the instructions at the OP.

We have a port of that, but it's not released as it's not consumer ready.

Johnnyonflame, to be specific.

Edit:
Actually, it was Quakeforge, not SDLQuake (still software rendered though).

glquake asks for libgal.so

Are you running an old firmware? I updated my gcw to the 5/5/2014 and it worked fine (its also worked since the etnaviv was rolled out)

I'm running the newest update I'm aware of. (the fixed new parition resizing thingy)
I tried it as an opk and (folder/glquake). nether worked :{
The log says "Permission denied" as a folder and libgal.so as opk!

Multiplayer USB Quake II!
« Reply #36 on: June 10, 2014, 06:43:11 pm »
Awesome!  I was fooling around with Quake II, and I had the Zero connected via USB to my laptop.  Started Quake II on my laptop, then started a multiplayer server on the Zero and...  connected to it on the laptop!  Death match!  Can't quite get it to work wirelessly yet, but I'm sure it's just something I'm doing wrong.  Who cares?  It works!

EDIT:  Still no wireless, but I did some experimenting and it seems that FileZilla must be connected to the Zero via USB (10.1.1.2) on the PC you plan to link to the Zero.  Makes sense.  I wonder, does that mean if I'm connected wirelessly via FileZilla will the PC Quake II will see the Zero's Quake II Server WITHOUT USB?  I've already tried using the PC's Quake II to connect wirelessly to the Zero's IP address, didn't seem to work.  I'll give it a shot later on.  Interesting, though.

Multiplayer on Quake II works, we've done it tons of times in the past. See a video below:
<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20190313211607/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyTCw1N92RM" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyTCw1N92RM</a>

It's just that you need to explicitly enter the IP address of the server in the game config.
The reason the built-in server browser can locate LAN servers on usb0, but not wlan0 has most likely to do with the netmask for each interface.
