Title: Project AM2R
Post by: thefifthgiant on December 05, 2015, 10:42:06 pm
Hey has anyone seen this project?

http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/p/about-project.html (http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/p/about-project.html)

Its a remake/update of Metroid 2 and it looks pretty promising, with updated gameplay and mechanics. I played around with the demo today and it is pretty cool.

Any chance that this could be ported to the zero? I'm not sure whether or not the author intends to release the source once it is completed, but there is a linux version of the demo available. Any thoughts?

No source code == no chance unless the author ports it.

it's being done with GameMaker Studio, so unless the guys from yoyogames add a GCWZero export module, i guess it wont be possible.

hi-ban has already answered - no port to GCW-Zero is possible, because it's Game Maker studio and it doesn't support GCW-Zero. Unless YoYo games ports the engine itself...

Watching inside game's archive reveals assets/game.unx which is definitely Game Maker.

That's unfortunate, I'd heard the game was made using Game Maker Studio and C#, but it wasn't clear if the project initially started in Game Maker and moved away from it or not but that doesn't appear to be the case.
It would be perfect for the GCW Zero too.

AM2R on Android

Looks like that's working by the magic of a Game Maker wrapper designed for Android, Undertale is playable on Android via the same means.
DoctorM64 was surprised by this himself and looks to plan an official Android release for AM2R now, probably only via an .APK rather than the Play Store obviously.
So this is sweet if you wanna play something like AM2R on a GPD XD or something, but I dunno anything about this wrapper or if such a thing is conceivable for OpenDingux. If it were, this would open up a whole lot of games to being ported to more than just the GCW Zero, which is an exciting thought.

Unfortunely, the wrapper trick no longer works for recent GMS games. (this includes AM2R)

However, i looked closer at the wrapper and it has libraries for MIPS ! (the GCW's architecture)
Using an Android software layer (like shashlik), it should be possible to run it on the GCW0.

But for it to actually work, Shashlik needs to be ported to this handled and it is far from easy...
It requires KDE libs unfortunely.

So if someone ports Shashlik (or something similar) to the GCW0 and the game has an Android port,
it might be possible to run all Game Maker Studio games on the GCW0.

Oh, and the linux binaries won't work on it because it is not targetted for MIPS. (the Android port, on the other hand, has libraries for MIPS)

Ah, that's a shame. It would be awesome for the comminity and gcw if someone could port this to the gcw.
It looks like an amazing game!
