Just got the GCW a few days ago. Been trying to get Chocolate doom and duke3d to work without success. I've tried many combinations,  both on the sd card and the internal and have been getting nothing. Both wads and grp files have been renamed to lower case and I've tried data/local/share/games/doom and for duke what the front end suggests. home/.eduke32/. Not exactly sure what mistake I'm making. Thanks in advance for any help.

When you launch eduke32 for the first time, the following screen appears:

As the instructions suggest, you are supposed to copy the "duke3d.grp" file to "/home/.eduke32/duke3d.grp" location, which is located on the internal memory. We symlink the $HOME directory location to the root of the filesystem, as seen when connected via FTP, so the path above will exist.

If the mentioned screen continues to appear after you have copied your data file, then $HOME/.eduke32/duke3d.grp file does not exist. Check if you have put it to the correct location.

I cannot answer the part of your question about Chocolate Doom, but the location you mention should be valid, assuming the wad is all lowercase. Run the "Chocolate Setup" to see if everything is correctly configured.

Are you sure your operating system doesn't hide file extensions, so when you attempt to rename them, you don't end up with "duke3d.grp.grp" and "doom.wad.wad"?

Would you please explain how to implement the chmod +x command?  I'm having the same issue, but I'm not sure what you mean.  Thanks.

You can follow this "tutorial": http://boards.dingoonity.org/gcw-general/(howto)-terminal-access-to-gcw0-using-telnet/msg75670/#msg75670

PS: as an alternative you can install the program in the external memory card, if it's formatted in FAT32 the access permissions don't require to be set...

Thanks!  I wish I had a bit more experience with Linux, but my experience is limited to Ubuntu-i.e., no command line stuff.  Unzipped the OPK, moved it to SD card, replaced wads, BINGO.  It works.  Although, Heretic has no sound?  Even after replacing the shareware wad with retail one.  Is that normal for Chocolate Doom?

I tried to create a /.eduke32/ directrory in home on the internal. but no dice. The file has no hidden .grp. It's from an original duke cd too.

Doom just doesn't allow me to highlight the part in chocolate doom setup where it says doom shareware.

I'm sorry, but I don't know if the sound lack is "normal" in the Heretic wad using Chocolate Doom!

I managed to run duke nukem 3d, and it seems that strife and hexen work (in full version), but doom (every episode) and heretic only launches the shareware version.

My wads are lowercase and in /local/share/games/doom.

How to enable them?

Plus, heretic indeed has no sound, and crashes whenever I configure a joystick (only heretic)-

Help?

No need to create this directory manually. It is automatically created on the first run of the program. If you don't see it in the /home/ directory, then either:
a) you are looking in the wrong directory
b) the /.eduke32/ directory is hidden and you need to enable showing the hidden files/directories in your FTP program

Duke Nukem 3D works fine, but i don't know how you run PRDoom-Doom 2 (return to menu) or ChocolateDoom (black screen).

I put the files in SD and nothing. Any help please?

I think prdoom is not updated anymore. Use Chocolate doom.

For chocolate doom, you have to put the wad files (doom.wad, etc.) into /usr/local/share/games/doom
But as I said, it seems that only strife and hexen recognize the wad that are in this folder. Anyway put the files into it, because this is the place they must be; I think we'll have to wait for an update.

Is it working? Do you still have crashes?

I still can't get eduke32 to work with various versions of Doom including one from a original disc and the version from Gog.com. This is where Filezilla is taking me to put the file (see screenshot below):

Is this the right place or is there something else I need to do? Also, would FileZilla be a good FTP client for this?

Yes, the case counts, and for doom too. DOOM.WAD -> doom.wad

Thanks, the problem was my chocolatedoom.opk old version ;D, I download other opk (in google repository) and now chocolate doom works. I put the wads in the directory an CD recognizes but...when I launch Doom II/ Final Doom / Doom or Doom Shareware, the program crashes and return to menu :'(
