Playstation on the Zero?
« on: March 21, 2013, 03:28:13 am »
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but in the last week we saw a video of a GCW0 "clone" that was playing PSX games.  Also a long time back there was a Zero proto playing Symphony of the Night.  So it seems it is indeed possible for the Zero to do this but any time it had been brought up in the past there was never really a concrete answer.

Is something in progress?
Or how about the emulator used in the videos, can we install that to our Zeros or will it be incompatible?
Do play station games require more buttons than the system has?

Maybe we can discuss this stuff here.  The official GCW Zero thread is mostly talking about production and deadlines now, so maybe it's better to just start a new thread for this.

Huh, every week or so this question arises, it was answered multiple times.

- Yes, technically it will be possible to run psx4all on gcw0
- No, nobody is working on it
- No, we can't install psx emu from chinese clone, it won't work
- No, it's not the problem gcw0
- Yes, it's because of a lack of opengl es drivers
- Yes, it's psx4all for maemo with opengl es video plugin

No it's not. A software renderer would work just as good. We just need somebody to start working on it and port Ari64's dynarec for maximum performance.

Well I now have a working version of psx4all Thanks to Johnnyonflame and Ayla for he's GIT version but it needs optimizing like sound ect... best game that I found so far to run was Disruptor in practice mode... ;)

Thing is I've not test it enough but if I can find a good game that works really well then I will do a video so people will know that psx is highly possible, and keeps people interested in the GCW project with high spirit ;)

That is psx4all with software renderer.
I have also built it some time ago, but the performance wasn't that great. So don't get too excited. Your 'it needs optimizing' means that it will not be done in a reasonable lapse of time. If you really want to optimize it, you'll have to rewrite a considerable part of emulation engine, mainly mips->mips dynarec.

Moreover, making a video with this half-baken psx4all may only hurt the image of gcw0 because people will start to think that gcw0 is not powerful enough, while it's not true.

Try N20, Side by Side and Resident Evil 2, they worked on Dingoo particularly the first two. I remember one of the Dino Crisis games was meant to work okay too.

A lot of games were down as being playable on the A320 PS1 thread but the only ones I found worthwhile were Side by Side and N20, the latter being almost smooth!
Handhelds:
GPD Win, GPD XD 64gb, PlayGo, RS-90, 3DS XL, DSi XL, GBA SP, GBBC Clone, Gameboy Pocket c/w screen mod, PSP Go
PC:
Medion Erazer, Toshiba Z20t, Dell Mini 9, Psion 5MX
Tons of other old laptops and tablets.....
