Install any linux game on the GCW Zero?
« on: December 22, 2013, 07:50:33 pm »
Hi,

There's some game that look quite interesting like Anodyne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjWRU5toicQ) that have Linux versions.

I was wondering if Linux game can be installed on the Gcw or if it's not possible without the help of the authors of the games?

It's not possible to run PC Linux games on GCW Zero without recompiling them.

The fact that both PC and GCW Zero run a Linux kernel doesn't make them binary compatible. PCs usually use x86 cpu architecture, while GCW Zero uses MIPS cpu architecture.
In order for a game binary to run on GCW Zero, it has to be compiled for: matching CPU architecture, matching OS, matching library set. Almost always this means a need for recompilation of the binary from the source code and no PC Linux game can work on the GCW Zero in its verbatim form.

I spoke with the developer and Anodyne runs on Adobe AIR.  So, not possible.

Qemu should be viable. At least it runs on the pandora.
However someone has to port it and maybe to make an interface.
