Possible solution for original firmware crash!
« on: April 07, 2014, 11:39:12 am »
Maybe I?ve found a solution for the original firmware crash of the GameGadget V2!

I?m not sure if this a occult "master reset" or just things got back to work by chance... Then anyone with the same problem should try and confirm if works or not.

The method consists in, without turning on the device, put it to charge with the left shoulder button pressed. It will charge without turning on the screen as usual. After a couple of hours it booted again in the original firmware.

quite spooky I read this yesterday then my Gamegadget packed up with a data corrupt error, I was trying to figure out how to fix it.  I'd held down the right shoulder button and start at the same time.

It puts it into firmware restore mode, but I can't find a firmware file to restore onto it.  I was hoping I might even be able to use a Dingoo firmware file but it doesn't seem to pick that up either.

I'll have a go at your suggestion, thanks :D

To enter the "Firmware Updater" you just have to press Start button while turn the device on. And I?m still searching for a firmware file...

But you tried the "left shoulder" button method that I?ve described above?

thanks, I tried that last night, I left it charging overnight.  However it was still the same this morning.  I'll have another go tonight.

It'd be good if there was a firmware file available or a compatible file, if it doesn't work I'm not sure whether to keep it on the off chance that a file becomes available in the future.  There doesn't seem to be a very big following of the machine to suggest that anybody will develop one either sadly,

it's a bit of a shame as it was a not bad wee machine :(

But you?re still able to use the "sandbox mode" with OpenDingux???

Someone around there must have the firmware... Will not make sense implement a "firmware updater" if such file doesn?t exist!

I hadn't thought of trying sandbox, I just assumed it wouldn't be able to boot up, thankfully though it did when I tried it.  So at least I can still use it in Sandbox mode until I find a firmware image file.

I've not tried OpenDingux yet, only the official sandbox boot up os

thanks again for your help :D

You?re welcome!

If the sandbox mode is working then there?s hope! Lol! Every time you put it to charge do it while pressing the left shoulder button (with the device turned off). Maybe it restore, just like in my case... Lol

And you should try the OpenDingux. The emulators work a lot faster than in the factory system.

If you understand german you must check the openhandhelds forum, there?s a small but active GameGadget comunity there. Unfortunatelly it?s not my case and Google Translate it?s not good enought in german...

I can speak a little German, not much but I'd get by if I was visiting :D  I'll have a look and see how I get on with the page.  I will also have a go at the OpenDingux, it sounds good

cheers :D

Thank you Kamelotz! With a variation of your method, It worked.

I tried your original method with the original cable without any luck.
I tried holding down the left trigger and powering the gg on without a usb cable. I left it for about half an hour, Still no luck.
I then tried your original method with a non data usb cable over night. Bingo!

Now I have to break it again to refine the process.

Hi, I've not posted on here for ages.  I hadn't really used the GameGadget since it crashed, although the sandbox worked I lost interest in it.

However, I just found it again the other day and started messing about on it.  By accident I think I have found a fix for the crash.  It's now working fine.

I took the SD card out, I plugged in the USB to my PC.  I opened the GameGadget, there was an xml file there which I backed up and deleted.  I then booted it up without the xml file and it worked straight away.

Worth a try if anyone still has a crashed Gamegadget.
