I'm wondering if anyone has seen this?

Buy on:

I'm thinking about picking one up.

True true, not a serious gaming machine.  Looks like a fun piece to have in the collection. Or on ya as backup or a nifty show and tell for friends.  I can see this good for shooters.

I like that you can have multiple games on it and that it's open source for devs.

At 45, I would have snatched it right up.  55 makes me think, but I'm likely to get it.

A fancy keyfob for $55 for decadent geeks, definitely there are some of them on these forums.

Can't see it as comfortable handheld for full-grown man, but maybe some midget gamers would be extremely happy.

Last day to get in on this.  They added a translucent shell.  It'll be an expensive novelty, but I can see myself playing a few shootem ups on this.

Had to get one for kicks.

They really missed the boat here. they could have included 4 face buttons with two back trigger buttons making ps1 games possible. it's a pretty powerful machine for it's size. lack of buttons will limit what it could have been.

It looks cool, however the 80x64 screen looks horrible and you can't actually fit many roms on there (a lot of SMS games are 256kb or 512kb). Kinda useless really.

Well on a good note... They will be making everything available and open source.  They said they want to hold off on releasing the info because another Chinese company could have taken it and beat them to the punch.

Once it's out there, I'm sure we'll see this with a bigger screen and playable, not just a novelty for kicks.

I couldn't help myself though.  I like stuff like this, arduboy, Pokitto, and the list goes on... Hehe

well, if they made it any bigger it would just be another hand held in a sea of handhelds. I think they went for the novelty concept to seperate themselves from everything else. personally i think its pretty cool, but as lemmy said mostly useless. if it were half the price i might pick it up for a conversation piece. outside of that i will pass. Hopefully they succeed though, nothing wrong with trying something different.

They are successful for sure. They got funded 750% and are continuing with pre-orders.  Once the open-source information gets released, I'm positive a Chinese competitor will clone it for starters at a third of the price.  We will probably see a lot of varients after that in the coming years.

Pretty excited about that!  Something slightly bigger in the shape of the GBA or GBA SP would be neat.  But like you said, not getting into the 2" handheld market.

I will probably grab the transparent one when the price drops... I really can't see this staying at 55 for over 6 months.  It looks cool for sure though.

Grabbed black, but I would've liked it better if they had an option for a black front and transparent back.

I think the selling point is on the novelty and the fact that it's possible.  Definitely not for gaming.

I went to Books-A-Million with my wife this weekend and she found these miniature Pacman and Ms Pacman cabinets with under 2" screens -- they were playable... barely.  For $25, just another novelty item to say that you can play Pacman on it, but in all honesty it was torture to try to play on.

If they're the same unit as I have they can be hardware modded (as I have done with two units for my kids) to play all four of the games in that series, Galaxians, Space Invaders, Pacman and Ms Pacman, see here:

These are great units too as they have a proper pixel screen and seem to have the real arcade ROMS.
My Portable Devices: Sega Game Gear, PSP 3000, PS Vita, Nvidia Shield Portable, GPD Win, GPD XD+, Bitboy V1, Coolboy RS-97, PAP KIII Plus, LDK Landscape, 1Up-Pix Portable Landscape (RPi 3B+), Anbernic RG-350.
