OpenJazz release #1
« on: August 04, 2010, 11:15:25 am »
Hey guys, I'm here with a new release today. This time it's OpenJazz.

I know there is a port of OpenJazz by yoannd26 already, though mine has a lot of improvements compared with the old port.

Let's list the most important ones:
* compiled against the latest svn (129), it has A LOT of updates, like:
  - partial support of mode7 bonus level (on picture)
  - all the levels are playable and completable
  - partial support of the first boss - medivo guardian (on picture)
  - plasma effect in the main menu
  - partial support of the cut-scene movies
  - many minor fixes
* improved button mapping in-game and in the menu
* fixed music not looping
* support of two resolutions: 320x240 and 320x200
* support of usb networking multiplayer (on picture)
* merged dingux patches with the vanilla svn, dingux port is now official!

Download: Dingoo File Archive

Look in the readme.txt for datafile installation details.

A little slow in the level selection (with only Shareware installed), but gameplay is much smoother and it looks nicer! Great work on this... now time to go find my old Jazz CD to get the full version files!

Yeah, I noticed the episode selection screen is slow if you don't have full or fullcd data.

Hm, I noticed another bug. Maybe it's just my CD, but the intro video is different from the shareware version (duh). However, the shareware intro video plays fine... but the retail CD version is glitched. Is this only happening for me?

Yeah, as I mentioned in the changelog:
Quote
partial support of the cut-scene movies
Movies need some work on yet. So it's not a bug, it's an uncompleted feature ;)

My bad, must have overlooked it. Either way, excellent job so far. I'm loving the progress; Jazz Jackrabbit was one of my favorite games as a kid! Screw JJ2, that one was just... too much I guess. The first one was better in my opinion. :P

Iirc similar issues happened when using an outdated rootfs.
Try elta?s: http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingux-development/a-couple-of-rootfs-upgrades/
I think that?s the most recent one.

Um, how exactly does the multiplayer thing work?
I heard this is not possible on the Dingoo, but there are a few multiplayer games for Dingux around.

(I'd try and find out myself, of course, but I just ordered mine a few days ago. It's still in Hong Kong :( )

EDIT: Ok, i just found the networking tutorial in the wiki. Does / could this work with the emulators too?

Played that quite a bit and it's great! Only problems I found were native to OpenJazz, not to the port.
Great job, thanks zear! ;D

I will try that later today :) tho I thought I had the latest set when getting everything ready for DosBox. Maybe I better do a safe copy somewhere else before replacing since other stuff might crash?

Thank you, everything works now. The first mediafire-link to the rootfs-update in the thread that I liked to here^^ has done the job. Glad to see Jazz again! Apart from the GBA-Jazz, this is my first time in 16 years :)
