Back on the topic of MAME 1.2, is anybody else getting "unable to initialize video" errors on games that previously worked in v1.1? (eg: Simpsons, Vendetta). I tried all video modes (8bit, 16bit, auto) and kept getting the same error.

I'm still using dmenu 0.4, if that makes a difference (ie: available memory).

I use a script for liberate memory, killing the menu and a few system process before running mame:

mame4all.sh
-------

#!/bin/sh
killall -9 dinguxmb
killall -9 klogd
killall -9 syslogd
killall -9 inetd
killall -9 udhcpd
killall -9 getty
sleep 6
cd /usr/local/emulators/mame4all
exec ./mame.dge

-------

For dmenu, change first process "dinguxmb" for "dmenu" . I think that's enough, if not (to see that you can do it via telnet), also add a line killing a process called "dmenu.bin".

Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a try and see if it helps.

I have a slight problem with v1.2:

Pressing L+R+SELECT is meant to bring you back to the menu, like in v1.0, is that correct?

If so, when I press the buttons, it brings me back to Dingux, and not to the MAME menu.

I have not had that problem, running dmenu 0.4

@demon - yes, the same thing happens to me...goes back to Dingux menu, not MAME menu.  Not sure why.

One other thing I noticed, you have to be careful about playing with the settings...because the settings you set, then become default for the next game you start up, unless you re-set them again.  Or select a game that already has had custom settings applied to it.

And the games then seem to keep those defaults unless you reset them.

Example, if you clock down to 70% on one game...the next game you start up...will start at a clock setting of 70%...unless you already changed that game in some other way, then it will load that game's defaults.  and the new game you just started will adopt those settings as that game's defaults.

So, you want to pay attention when changing games.  It does not go back to a pre-set MAME-wide default.

Does already someone know what causes the exiting MAME problem? It's a bit annoying having to boot MAME every time up when switching games.

This will not work, because dmenu will restart everytime you kill it. You have to rename the /local/sbin/main file to stop it restarting again and again.

And dmenu takes about 6mb of ram if its running. (with my fastforward theme for example)
