[UPDATED][RELEASE] 64MB Dingux for A330
« on: May 30, 2010, 12:48:56 am »
I've finally finished the dualboot loader, Dingux kernel, and installer for the Dingoo Technology A330.

This dualboot loader is designed to take full advantage of the A330's upgraded hardware. With it and the updated Dingux kernel, you get full access to the 64MB of RAM and 400MHz clock speed.

The dualboot loader, kernel, and installation routines are packaged into a single zip file with detailed instructions. Please note that these files do not work with the original dualboot installer. Also note that you cannot simply use the new kernel with your existing dualboot installation, you must install the dualboot loader that comes with this package, and must use the included kernel (zImage file) in order to utilize these enhancements.

I have provided installation scripts for both Windows (32) and Linux (x86). Unfortunately I'm not able to provide a Mac version at this time.

Finally, though this should be obvious, you cannot use this on an A320! It will only work on the new A330!

If you have any questions or run into problems, please contact me here. Please read the instructions carefully and if you are submitting a bug report, please follow the bug report directions that are in the readme file.

Please note, the installer has been updated to Version 1.01 to correct a flaw in the Windows installer.
Download the 64MB Dingux for A330

Cheers!

Great work Stephanie. So finally the much criticized A330 gets a chance to shine a little :)

So what more is possible in Dingux with the additional RAM? I know Duke3D and Shadow Warrior should run better.

I think all big 3d games, like Duke, Shadowwarrior, Descent, Quake, Psx4all for sure. Nice work! :)

Great work Stephanie!

Just a small question.
Will it be possible in a later release to have a unified openDingux for both A320 and A330?

So that the kernel autodetects the RAM and works on both versions?

Also it would be GREAT if there would be an update for the native OS, which stops killing the RTC ;)

No. And this is Dingux...no Emu!

There's been some discussion on making a unified installation tool that will work for all devices. I'm not sure yet about the kernel autodetecting, but if the bootloader can tell the kernel which device then that would be almost as good, so a single kernel would work for both devices. It's a work in process, at any rate.

As for native OS updates... I don't really know if we can do that. I guess with enough hacking at it, but I'm hoping that Dingoo Tech will release an update that addresses the ram and clock issues.

Yes a white screen is normal during the dualboot installation.

@Stephanie: I don't think that it's usefull to pump up the dingoo at default 400mhz. Normally in Menu you dont need that much and in gmenu2x you can overclock for every single app.

Please make a normal one using 336mhz.

I thought the A330 was supposed to run at 400MHz?  Wasn't that part of the hardware upgrade?

It took less than a minute for me to do but for some reason even after formatting and using the new zimage file it just freezes at the dingux screen. Ive tried three different cards and three different adapters. I tried formatting the sd in linux,  and using the panasonic formatter, and formatting from a command prompt using format x: /FS:fat32 /A:32k. I'll look into it a little more when I get home. I will try my other card that is running in my a320 at home and let you know.

Were you using the linux or the windows installer?
Which SPL did you try? Linux-priority or Native-priority?
Is it Dingux that you cannot boot, or is it Native that you cannot boot, or both?

It sounds like something is not going correctly. It should take less than a minute.

I suggest you stop, reset, and start the whole process over again.
