What does Segmentation Error Mean?
« on: November 01, 2009, 02:35:19 pm »
I get "Segmentation Error" when I load Dingux, not sure how to resolve or find more information on the error.

Well, that could be everything  ;D
Did it work and after a reboot no more worked? Thgen itīs probably a corrupted SD, not nice if you have no backup.
But if you changed something in dmenu, it could be a missing icon too.
What happens before the segmentation error (segmentation fault? or really error?)?

I was playing Hexen a bit, and then decided to try saving my progress in a savegame.

After that, I quit and restarted Dingux again. At some point, I noticed the message 'Deleting fat entry beyond eof', after which 'Mounting in read-only mode' was applied to the SD Card. This usually hints at a filesystem corruption and Linux' attempt to limit damages.

Next thing, I got the Segmentation fault while trying to start Rise of the Triad. So I would say your 'Segmentation Error' could have to do with a corrupt filesystem on your SD card.
Write/save problems? Segmentation faults? Black screens? Read the Troubleshooting and FAQ guide first to fix your issues! :)
SD Card readonly/corruption issues? Chkdisk /F and steer clear from DMenu: use GMenu instead!

If itīs really a corrupted filesystem you can usually rescue the most, at least if youīre lucky.
And yeah, writing to the SD can make the SD corrupt, due to a bug in dingux. But booboo (adore him! :D) is working on it.

With some more tinkering I also got the error, on boot even.

I found that DMenu 0.4 in my case was causing the problem on boot, I reverted to DMenu 0.3 and it worked fine. Still not sure what's going on though. :P

Dmenu 0.4 DID have that error if you had the Zimage that allowed shutdown in Dingux.
If you add in your theme.cfg a few lines of, I guess you can call "code", it would resolve that problem.
I don't have my Dingoo near me so I can't post what it was. When I get around to being near my Dingoo Ill take a look and post what you need to type in, unless someone else does.
I had this problem back over in a320 Freeforums and I was asking for help. I looked, now,  at what was left of it to see if I could find the topic but no success. Topic wasn't brought back.

Would that be those 3 lines of color information? I thought they'd only make old themes compatible with 0.4...

Can't believe how much proper information is 'lost' now, good thing we're trying to get it all back at Dingoonity. :)

YES those are the lines. Its for the color of text. You need it in theme.cfg
I put that in and it fixed my problem.
