Indiana Jones 3 / Indy3 scummvm dingoo
« on: November 23, 2009, 03:51:16 pm »
I want to first thank those who were able to put dingux together. i am very appreciative. i have a question regarding dingux/scumm

I have scummvm installed and one game i own is called "indiana jones and the last crusade." its a great game and its one of those old lucasarts point and click games. Well i noticed when you play the game, there is no key mapped for "fighting" see if you play this game on the computer you have an option of fighting through some situations (and as i recall you have to in some parts of the game fight). but since the directional keys are mapped to act as the mouse, indy will not move in the fighting sequence. there is also no button mapped for him to attack. i wasn't sure if there was a way to remap the buttons specifically for that game without effecting the other games.

has anyone played this game? do you know what i am talking about (if not, when you first start the game get into the boxing ring and try to fight. you'll see what i mean)

Fate of atlantis will probably have the same problem, won't it?

thanks

It's a known lacking feature. However I think we have no contact with the author of the port, nor did he left us any code so we can't fix that ourselves too.

As for Fate of Atlantis, you can hit by clicking with the mouse cursor on the guy you fight with. At least that's how it works for the first guy in the theater rear exit.

I think the source of scummvm for Dingux is available:
http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/dingoo.cgi?0,0,0,0,46,54

A relevant discussion is here (:
http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingux-emulation/%28help%29-scummvm/

PS:The default compiling option enables the DEBUG, I remember someone updated scummvm once, but he forgot to disable this option, this is the reason why the size of scummvm in the recent local package is about 30MB (it's
about 10MB without any DEBUG info).

You are not the first one who tells me about problem with accessing my site, but I have no idea why this may happen.
I access this Russian site from Israel, and it always works for me, from anywhere.

I can upload the files anywhere else, if you think this will help.

Ah, I see. Well, you're right, I just accessed your site and downloaded your file through a proxy, so it's not like the site is down!
I haven't got time to try your version right now, but I will, so thanks for that!

In fate of atlantis you can use the key 0 to win a the "bad boy" quickly, but in fight mode anyone of the "bad guy's" tell you what this trick not work with him. The Key 0 in the dingoo is the L trigger.

Sorry my english

jevilon, on a Spanish forum you wrote my build is unstable a little...
What's exactly wrong ? Did you compare it with the 0.21 release ? Do you think there is a regression ?
Can you reproduce the problem ?
I am almost sure I didn't break anything, but if I am wrong and you can prove it - I will be glad to fix my fault.

Use "R" button to activate virtual keyboard in SCUMMVM

Use "R" button to activate the all-purpose virtual keyboard in SCUMMVM.
Don't forget to read README file and/or release notes.

If you are playing "Larry" or other Sierra game - T9 keyboard is activated automatically when you "click" near the text cursor.

ah, well unfortunately that doesn't seem to help for the dingoo.  I thought this was a virtual keyboard for SCUMMVM for dingoo/dingux.

Hi Borus,

I find it a little unstable. It always seems to crash when i play Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade if I press the Y button.

I don't try to press it, sometimes i do by accident!

I have also experienced crashes while using the keyboard.

Hope that helps!

tiki_cat:

1. First of all, I'd like you to check whether the previous version (0.21 by ChaoticBob) has the same symptoms with Y button in in the game. Can you do that ?

2. By default, Y is mapped to left SHIFT button on PC in ScummVM. It can be remapped to anything else, and if you have any good idea to what other convenient button it should be remapped - let me know

3. It seems pressing various non-standard buttons in ScummVN games may crush it, being it Y as Shift, or being it virtual button pressed using virtual keyboard. Can you recall how did you crash ScummVM from virtual keyboard ?

gurnie:

I am trying to understand your problem, but I can't. After pressing R button on Dingoo you should see a virtual keyboard in ScummVM (which runs in Dingux), do you see it ? Do you use ScummVM v.1.0-chaoticbob-cax from my site ?

Borus:

Yes i downloaded this file
http://cax.nm.ru/dingoo/scummvm-1.0.0-chaoticbob-cax.bin.zip

i then dragged everything onto the appropriate folder on the flash drive (Scummvm folder under emulators).  I then have tried pushing the "R" button and no keyboard has poped up

games i have tried:

indy 3
day of the tentacle
indy4

So i then unzipped everything that is in the download and put it in the folder, nothing changes.

so i wiped the folder clean and put everything in your download into the folder and it still did not work.

i am using scummvm version 0.14.0svn july 21 2009 2:36:49

****EDIT

Ok so after messing around i figured you have to remove the .dge from the scummmvm.dge on your download.  That made it all work.  The keyboard pops up and i was able to tell the emulator where to pull my save states from

thanks very much!!!  i appreciate the update.  I haven't been able to get past the castle in indy3 since i posted this message.  now i can !

Hi Borus,

1. I don't have a 0.21 version to test. I did try it with the first 0.14svn and there is no crash. If you can link to 0.21 version I can test.

2. Sorry, it was the x button that caused a crash but not all the time. I also found that sometimes when I enter or exit the virtual keyboard it crashes.

3. The crash only happens sometimes and it it when I press r to exit or enter the virtual keyboard.

Hope that helps

Well, it seems you cannot provide a reliable test case, and I have to find and run the game myself.
Anyway, try to reproduce the crash for sure, just as QA people in IT companies do, otherwise I have no way to fix that.
As for "0.14svn" it's exactly what ChaoticBob's version 0.21 shows (and it's a known confusion).

I can confirm some of this.

For example if i was playing INDY3 and the game had a cut scene, after the cut scene if i immediately pushed the R button, the game would lock-up and kick me back to dingux menu but would be frozen (and you would have to push the reset button to unfreeze).

once i hit the scummvm menu button twice (i think it's the start button) and the game would lock-up and kick me back to dingux menu but would be frozen (and you would have to push the reset button to unfreeze).

one a few times if i immediately pushed the "R" button (one or more times) when the game was loading beginning credits the game would lock-up and kick me back to dingux menu but would be frozen (and you would have to push the reset button to unfreeze).

Another if i accidentally hit the "R" button and if i hit the "R" button to try to get out of the keyboard screen the game would lock-up and kick me back to dingux menu but would be frozen (and you would have to push the reset button to unfreeze).

this all happened in Indy3 and Indy4.

I hope this helps.  Great build so far :)
