Probably a stupid question - ROM locations
« on: November 11, 2009, 10:18:42 am »
As topic, probably a stupid question, but I'm new to all of this, so don't want to cock things up from the start!

Where do I put my ROM's for the Dingux emulators to play them?
Do they have to be on my mini sd card, or can I load them onto the on-board flash memory of the Dingoo, and load the from there?
Will I have to add each title to Dmenu before I'm able to play them , or can I laod them from the emulators?

Any info would be appreciated - I want to try this all out this afternoon, but will first have to get around my corrupted sd card!

Yes.

So no big choice if it's corrupted.

You dont have to make a Dmenuconfig entry for roms.
Some Emulators have a menu where you can load the roms.
Others needs the "Selector" enabled in the Dmenuconfig to start a rom.

Where would I go to do that?

Edit your menu_emulators.cfg file, here's f.ex. mine for Snes9x emulator:

Quote
MenuItem Snes9x
{
Icon = "res/emulators/snes9x.png"
Name = " Snes9x"
Executable = "./Snes9x"
WorkDir = "/usr/local/emulators/snes9x"
Selector = yes
}

You see the line Selector = yes.

Brilliant - thanks for that - So I just make a SNES folder within the games folder, and put my SMC files in there and snes9x will find them?

Apologies again for all the simple questions, but I'm new to all this!

No worries man. You don't have to do to much for the emulators that come with the local package, so for SNES9x, just toss them into it's folder and you'll be good.

Most Dingux Emu's have a "ROMS" folder you have to put the ROM's into.  Others, like SNES9X, just toss them into the SNES9x folder, as there is no "roms" folder associated with that specific emu.

In general, you can put the roms wherever you want on the SD.
But its more comfortable to have a "ROMS" folder in the Emufolder because you dont have to browse too much.

Just click on the plus sign below the name of the person you wish to give positive "karma" to.
