Multiplayer with Prdoom
« on: December 30, 2009, 11:43:00 am »
Hi guys!

I have an idea... The dingux has got an usbnetwork adapter which is currently working. Wouldnt it be possible to connect to dingoos to a pc with usb and then play some doomgames over network? I have tried it with dingoo and pc, but the dingoo never found my server. Is the usbnetwork adapter disabled when I start an application like prboom?

It requires a prboom port with network support compiled in.
CongoZombie already compiled such a binary, but there was a problem with graphics in main menu, so he never released it.
But we tested it and it worked pretty decent. Here's a screenshot for proof:

I actually completed the whole Doom I in cooperative mode - dingoo & pc, and it was quite stable.

Nice to see that. Is there a way to connect two dingoos without an extra pc?

if you had a mini-usb on both ends of the cable, and told one of the dingoos to just connect to the other, instead of setting itself up as the dhcp server etc(so the pc can get an adress from it) then theoretically yes

That's not true. Dingoo's usb can't work in host mode, so they won't be able to communicate to each other if connected together.
That's why you need a PC that works as a host.

good point, though how does the dingoo send data over the usb? surely it'd just be rewriting the drivers?

Tried connecting two dingoos with eachother, but can't see the "usb0: high speed config #1: 100 mA, Ethernet Gadget, using CDC Ethernet", that appears every time i connect it to a USB host device.
USB host is a must, I guess.

Well, there's something called 'USB on the go' that allows to connect two non-host USB devices; I don't know if it requires specific hardware though, or if a driver suffices.

I believe OTG it requires a special USB hardware and doubt they put it in a device that tries to keep the lowest price by the quality of it's parts

hmm...i was thinking more along the lines of, we have hardware level access to the usb data pins, so could just do a driver rewrite...but then again usb drivers are hell, so that's me out...at elast until i've learnt a lot more stuff  ;D

Maybe this thing would work? It emulates the host function of a pc.
