can someone post the altered file/files to get Dingux-Atari and Atari 7800 to work? I tried to edit as posted, but just ended up borking it.

Don't need any files.  All you need to do is alter your dmenu.cfg file (use Notepad++ to do this)
All you need to do is to put in a menu item so that the emulators will show up in your Dingux menu...if I correctly understand what you are asking for, anyway.

There's a topic on here about it, gimme a sec, I'll find it and link for you.
Thanks, but as I said I tried to edit the dmenu.cfg file (in notepad++) and still killed it. As you can probably tell I am a total noob with any kind of Linux!, it is a small wonder that I even managed to get as far as getting dingux to work at all :o

oh, and where does the.png file for the button go (and how should it be named?)

Mimo...try again, with what I posted above!!

You're probably getting stuck at the same place I, myself, was getting stuck at.

Us noobs gotta stick together.

I can only help with this one, because it's something I, myself, had a problem with...and fixed.

so I really hope I'm able to help you out on this one...will make me feel reaaally good...if I know I finally, actually, really helped someone else...instead of always asking for help!!  LOL!

Seriously...us noobs gotta stick together and help each other a bit.

Getting nowhere fast with this.
I'm using the toddler local pack .32+.32a as a starting point.
The .cfg files for the emulators are in dmenu/themes/simple/menu-emulators.cfg
I guess that this is the correct file to alter as it looks like the code that you guys have posted?
So, do I have to change the .cfg file in all the themes (there are 4 theme folders in the pack I am using), and do I need to put a button .png file in all of the themes? so would the correct location be dmenu/themes/simple/res/emulators?

There is only one dmenu.cfg file you need to alter.
It is at local/demenu/dmenu.cfg
Put the .png file called "thumb.png" into local/dmenu/res/emulators and then rename the .png file to whatever you call for in your code you change in the dmenu.cfg file...in my example above, you would rename the file 7800.png

By the way, for the Atari 2600, the code you add to dmenu.cfg is the same, except that where you have dingux-7800 you will put dingux-2600 and rename the thumb file something else...in my case, I named that one "atari.png" and make sure to chage the file you call for on the Icon line, too.

I hope this helps.

nope, that does not exist in .32, maybe in .31 I'll download and see if that is any easier

Look in the root of your SD card.
It will normally be your highest drive letter.
It's there.

Don't give up so easy.  I'm a noob too.  Maybe I'm not giving you whatever it is you actually need.  Problem is...you're so vague as to what the damn thing is doing you make it hard to help you.

I only did the best I could.

Maybe if you could better describe what the problem is...maybe I could help...or someone else could.

I'm a total idiot with this stuff and I have mostly managed.

Don't give up so easy.

I would'nt say that I am giving up easy, I have been trying this for 2 days now and getting no further.
In summary I have copied the dingux-7800 folder over to  /local/emulators,
edited the config file in
I have installed an earlier version of LOCAL, that has only one theme and the config file as you describe.
I have edited the config file Notepad++
Copied thumbnail.png and renamed to 7800.png to local/dmenu/res/emulators

when I boot up Dingux I get
Code: [Select]
dMenu.cfg:190 no such option 'dingux-7800'
Unable to load config file.re = 1

I really don't see what I am doing wrong, it is probably something simple but beyond my feeble capabilities.

Mimo...I see your problem.

Look at your ICON line.  You did not close the quotes.

Believe it or not, I think it may just be that simple.

Everything else you describe as having done sounds correct, the rest of your config file looks correct.

EDIT: You did the best thing in the world you could do to help me...and yourself...by posting that screenshot.

Often, it's a darn good thing to have an extra pair of eyes to look over your code...often, they will see something you miss.

Don't feel "stupid" or anything about the little quote mark, this is something we ALL have done at some point....AND THEN NOT BEEN ABLE TO SEE IT OURSELVES...  Even the most experienced here have done it at some point...and if they say otherwise, likely they are not being truthful.

You've done damn good for being a noob.  You just need a little practice, and a little confidence...and a little help.

I can't help you much with the first one...Be glad to help such as I can with the second and the third one.

Well thanks so much, I spent so much time looking to find what I did wrong, I guess I couldn't see the wood for the trees.
All working now, can't thank you enough ;D

No problem.  Just glad to be able to pass forward some of the help I. myself, have gotten here!

Sometimes, whjen you're really frustrated, it's real easy to miss a small coding error like that...so it's always good to have an extra pair of eyes to look over your code.

That screenshot was the best thing you could have done, it allowed me to look over your code, exactly as you had it in, and see that error.

Glad everything worked for you!

Now, load up on games and have fun!!

Welcome aboard the Dingoo Express!
