PSX4ALL Compatibility List
« on: October 16, 2009, 07:43:26 pm »
Posted in the right place!

Hey guys,

I figure to help stop the "Does this game work?" we should start a centralized compatibility list thread.

If the games is good mark it Green.

If it is bad, mark it Red.

If it is playable but not awesome, mark it Blue.

Be sure to post steps you did:
-Name
-Emulator Version (when it updates)
-FPS/Frameskip settings
-Compression/Filetype
-BIOS

I will help when I get Dingux on mine.

edit by mod:

Anybody posting links to roms or romsites will find themselves banned from this point on

I'd say a list is best compiled in the wiki, that way:
1) people are forced to keep proper formatting.
2) all entries will be in organized order.
3) people can easily spot whether or not they're reporting duplicates.

Kind of like this list. Works much better than an x-page long forum thread...
Write/save problems? Segmentation faults? Black screens? Read the Troubleshooting and FAQ guide first to fix your issues! :)
SD Card readonly/corruption issues? Chkdisk /F and steer clear from DMenu: use GMenu instead!

Edit:UPDATE all this time the CPU setting was on normal, so retesting using 430mhz watch for fps change in Orange, these settings are subject to change - as I`m finding out more :-)

Exhumed pal - psx4all 20091015 - bin file format - no fs 430MHz - bios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin

full speed, was 50/69 with fs 2/3 glichty - now 25/30fs no fs no glitches -  no sound
No graphical gliches now gone from green to blue - love this game

Kula World -psx4all 20091015 - .ZNX file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - bios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin Very playable in my eyes, was 22fps now 28/30fps no sound - great 3D puzzler

Dark Forces - psx4all 20091015 - .bin file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - biios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin
Runs at 35pfs no sound - Graphics to glichy :-(

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 turbo - psx4all 20091015 - .bin file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - biios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin
Very Playable was 30fps now 35/40 no sound - runs nice if you ask me, much faster lol - another great puzzler

Martal Komabt 4 NTSC - psx4all 20091015 - .bin file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - biios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin
Runs with out a glitch at 19/20fps in game - I`m giving this a green as its a bit slow for a fighting game

Edit: all this time I was testing - it was normal clock speed lol - check  changes

I'd like to once again advertise the bugtracker: http://github.com/uli/psx4all-dingoo/issues

The Castlevania thing, for instance, is quite obvious. It's most likely an add or addi instruction somewhere in the translated code that should have been addu or addiu, respectively, the difference being precisely that the former throw an overflow exception once in a while. This, however, has only come to my attention by coincidence, because I am not usually in the habit of searching through forum threads on the off chance that there might be some valuable information hidden somewhere in the back. (I'm only doing that now to see how people react to this thing I let loose. :))

I'm not asking you to report every rendering glitch in every game (especially since I don't really know much about the PSX graphics hardware anyway), but everything that segfaults, overflows, or otherwise crashes the emulator is worth reporting, and probably not that hard to fix anyway. So please report that stuff on github. There I will see it. Thank you.

@ steelwings - try scph7502.bin bios and rename to scph1001.bin - that`s what I did and games that would not work

Playable a little. Some graphical glitches in the menu and corrupter text in game. I got 'floating point overflow' during first scene (in about 1-2 minutes ingame)

I just played it to the first savepoint using the scph7502.bin bios. There's something fishy with the scph1001.bin IMO. I used the ntsc version of castlevania aswell.

I don't think the FPS reporting is accurate when frameskipping is enabled (or frameskipping slows rendering down quite a bit).For instance FF7 reports 30-40 fps with a 420mhz overclock, but when frameskipping is enabled it reports around 15fps.It honestly feels more like 40fps then 15, it's not that much slower than running the game on a pal console in PAL50 mode, although definitely too slow for my liking.

Also frameskipping doesn't seem to help performance enough to be useful at the moment, just makes the game very choppy, and gives only a handful of extra fps.

Games that work for me:
Crash Bandicoot 3 (.img, slow, looks and plays fine)
Dead or Alive (ripped .cbn, bit slow, graphic bug like in gta menu,plays fine, recommend fs 3/5)
Gran Turismo (ripped .cbn, slow, looks and plays fine)
GTA (ripped .bin, bit slow, looks and plays fine)
Rage Racer (ripped .bin, a bit slow, looks and plays fine)
Ridge Racer (ripped .iso, ~20 fps @ 430mhz, looks and plays fine)
Tekken 2 (ripped .iso, gta menu graphic bug, VERY weird rendering bug, fighters look like octpusses i.e. unplayable, 7 fps @ 430mhz)
Tekken 3 (ripped .iso, slow (17 fps), looooong loading times, looks and plays fine)
Wipeout 2097 (ripped .bin, slow ~20 fps, looks and plays fine)

Games that did not work for me:
Ace Combat 3 (freezes after loading, waited 2 minutes)
Autobahn Raser 2 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception)
Destruction Derby 2 (crashes in menu)
Destruction Derby Raw (segfaults)
Metal Gear Solid VR Missions (crashes before menu)
Resident Evil 2 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception) plays fine with fix
Resident Evil 3 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception)
Tomb Raider (black screen after loading, ripped .cbn)
Tony Hawk 1 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception) plays fine with fix, gta menu bug ingame
Tony Hawk 2 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception)

What frameskip you using eule?

I agree with darklegion about FF7 its looks better and smoother with out frameskip - I`m getting arounf 30/40fps,
Just needs that little speed boost - and where laughing :-)

Most of the time i use 0/1. If i use other settings, the game hangs sometimes, like hickups. Tekken 3 plays great with 2/3 btw. But loading takes ~ 5 minutes.  ;D
Interlacing can bring a nice speedup too, 1 line (accaptable) in Rage Racer got me from ~15 fps to ~17, 3 lines (ugly!) ~20. Might help with ff7 too.
And yes, you have to set the clockspeed again if you reboot dingux.

I need to test those for games I posted again all this time I thought is was overclocked to 430mhz,
Can someone confirm I have to set the cpu speed every time I boot into dingux?
