Title: PSX4ALL Compatibility List
Post by: Kamiyay on October 16, 2009, 07:43:26 pm
Posted in the right place!

Hey guys,

I figure to help stop the "Does this game work?" we should start a centralized compatibility list thread.

If the games is good mark it Green.

If it is bad, mark it Red.

If it is playable but not awesome, mark it Blue.

Be sure to post steps you did:
-Name
-Emulator Version (when it updates)
-FPS/Frameskip settings
-Compression/Filetype
-BIOS

I will help when I get Dingux on mine.

edit by mod:

Anybody posting links to roms or romsites will find themselves banned from this point on

I'd say a list is best compiled in the wiki, that way:
1) people are forced to keep proper formatting.
2) all entries will be in organized order.
3) people can easily spot whether or not they're reporting duplicates.

Kind of like this list (http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?title=GCOS_Gamecube_Compatibility_List:_NTSC-U). Works much better than an x-page long forum thread...

Edit:UPDATE all this time the CPU setting was on normal, so retesting using 430mhz watch for fps change in Orange, these settings are subject to change - as I`m finding out more :-)

Exhumed pal - psx4all 20091015 - bin file format - no fs 430MHz - bios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin
full speed, was 50/69 with fs 2/3 glichty - now 25/30fs no fs no glitches -  no sound
No graphical gliches now gone from green to blue - love this game

Kula World -psx4all 20091015 - .ZNX file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - bios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin Very playable in my eyes, was 22fps now 28/30fps  no sound - great 3D puzzler

Dark Forces - psx4all 20091015 - .bin file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - biios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin
Runs at 35pfs no sound - Graphics to glichy :-(

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 turbo - psx4all 20091015 - .bin file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - biios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.binVery Playable was 30fps now 35/40 no sound - runs nice if you ask me, much faster lol - another great puzzler

Martal Komabt 4 NTSC - psx4all 20091015 - .bin file format - fs 2/3 430MHz - biios - scph7502.bin->scph1001.bin
Runs with out a glitch at 19/20fps in game - I`m giving this a green as its a bit slow for a fighting game

Edit: all this time I was testing - it was normal clock speed lol - check  changes

I'd like to once again advertise the bugtracker: http://github.com/uli/psx4all-dingoo/issues

The Castlevania thing, for instance, is quite obvious. It's most likely an add or addi instruction somewhere in the translated code that should have been addu or addiu, respectively, the difference being precisely that the former throw an overflow exception once in a while. This, however, has only come to my attention by coincidence, because I am not usually in the habit of searching through forum threads on the off chance that there might be some valuable information hidden somewhere in the back. (I'm only doing that now to see how people react to this thing I let loose. :))

I'm not asking you to report every rendering glitch in every game (especially since I don't really know much about the PSX graphics hardware anyway), but everything that segfaults, overflows, or otherwise crashes the emulator is worth reporting, and probably not that hard to fix anyway. So please report that stuff on github. There I will see it. Thank you.

Name: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Mode: NTSC
Emulator version: psx4all 20091015
File format: iso
Frameskip:  2/3
Sound: no
CPU freq: 430MHz
BIOS:scph1001.bin
FPS: 12-14

Comments:
Playable a little. Some graphical glitches in the menu and corrupter text in game. I got 'floating point overflow' during first scene (in about 1-2 minutes ingame)

I just played it to the first savepoint using the scph7502.bin bios. There's something fishy with the scph1001.bin IMO. I used the ntsc version of castlevania aswell.

I don't think the FPS reporting is accurate when frameskipping is enabled (or frameskipping slows rendering down quite a bit). For instance FF7 reports 30-40 fps with a 420mhz overclock, but when frameskipping is enabled it reports around 15fps.It honestly feels more like 40fps then 15, it's not that much slower than running the game on a pal console in PAL50 mode, although definitely too slow for my liking.

Also frameskipping doesn't seem to help performance enough to be useful at the moment, just makes the game very choppy, and gives only a handful of extra fps.

Games that work for me:
Crash Bandicoot 3 (.img, slow, looks and plays fine)
Dead or Alive (ripped .cbn, bit slow, graphic bug like in gta menu, plays fine, recommend fs 3/5)
Gran Turismo (ripped .cbn, slow, looks and plays fine)
GTA (ripped .bin, bit slow, looks and plays fine)
Rage Racer (ripped .bin, a bit slow, looks and plays fine)
Ridge Racer (ripped .iso, ~20 fps @ 430mhz, looks and plays fine)
Tekken 2 (ripped .iso, gta menu graphic bug, VERY weird rendering bug, fighters look like octpusses i.e. unplayable, 7 fps @ 430mhz)
Tekken 3 (ripped .iso, slow (17 fps), looooong loading times, looks and plays fine)
Wipeout 2097 (ripped .bin, slow ~20 fps, looks and plays fine)

Games that did not work for me:
Ace Combat 3 (freezes after loading, waited 2 minutes)
Autobahn Raser 2 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception)
Destruction Derby 2  (crashes in menu)
Destruction Derby Raw (segfaults)
Metal Gear Solid VR Missions (crashes before menu)
Resident Evil 2 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception) plays fine with fix
Resident Evil 3 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception)
Tomb Raider (black screen after loading, ripped .cbn)
Tony Hawk 1 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception) plays fine with fix, gta menu bug ingame
Tony Hawk 2 (crashes when it goes ingame, floating point exception)

What frameskip you using eule?

I agree with darklegion about FF7 its looks better and smoother with out frameskip - I`m getting arounf 30/40fps,
Just needs that little speed boost - and where laughing :-)
Title: Re: PSX4ALL Compatibility List
Post by: eule on October 17, 2009, 01:00:04 pm
Most of the time i use 0/1. If i use other settings, the game hangs sometimes, like hickups. Tekken 3 plays great with 2/3 btw. But loading takes ~ 5 minutes.  ;D
Interlacing can bring a nice speedup too, 1 line (accaptable) in Rage Racer got me from ~15 fps to ~17, 3 lines (ugly!) ~20. Might help with ff7 too.
And yes, you have to set the clockspeed again if you reboot dingux.

-Name: Final Fantasy VIII
-Emulator Version (when it updates): 1.0
-FPS/Frameskip settings: 2/3
-Compression/Filetype: img
-BIOS: SCPH-7502

Can get to the start game screen, but initial cutscene causes it to "seem to" freeze. Numbers on top are still running, but no picture on screen, so cannot be certain. Has been on black screen for 10 minutes now, though.

-Name:Chrono Cross
-FPS/Frameskip settings: 2/3
-Compression/Filetype: img
-BIOS: SCPH-7502

Freezes at initial menu screen (due to a cutscene-like intro before the start game menu).

It seems this emulator can't handle 3D stuff at all yet.

I seem to be getting the most reliable emulation with 400mhz overclock and frameskip of 1/2 with Poly, Sprite, and Image frameskip turned off.  Leaving those on makes it very buggy.  But frameskip does give noticable performance boost even with those turned off.

Name: Silent Hill

File format: BIN
Frameskip: 1/2 with Poly, Sprite, and Image frameskip turned off

Crash Bash

Crash Bandicoot 2 - Cortex Strikes Back

Tekken 3 hangs a long time at the Namco screen for me and if i let it load patiently (few minutes) i come to the menu. I use the 30 or 40 mb ripped version. Google tekken3 + emulator to find it.
Oh and MGS should be yellow in the compatibility overview, playable but a little slow.

Could you post the save state for FF8? I wonder if it's a way to play FF9 because FF9 also crashed when start up the new game.  Thanks a lot.

Sorry, i haven?t got FF8 or 9. But you could always use ePSXe to make a savestate of FF9.
I only tried a ripped version of MGS VR Missions, probably that?s the reason it didn?t work for me.
oh btw:

The key to the extra performance is setting cycle multiplier to 5.Sometimes the game pauses just after the playstation logo, however you can just temporarily lower the level down, and then raise it up again after the squaresoft logo appears.

EDIT: I'm not sure I entirely trust the fps counter once you get above Cycle Multiplier 5 or so.For instance CM=10 reports ridiculous figures like 100+ fps, but the game feels more jerky, and doesn't seem to run faster then CM=5, except for certain areas.CM=5 definitely feels faster than CM=2 though, so it does have some positive effect.
Actually, I wonder if this a cbn issue, or issue with the read speed from the SD, what with the newer dingux kernel lowering it's speed to workaround the corruption issues.

Thank you for the information. Where did you get the bios with which 'Air Combat' works?

[edit] Did some Googling. I've come to understand that no-body can tell me where to get the Playstations Bios. Because that's illegal. Duh: I should have known that! Boy am I thick. The bios is, I think, its actual operating system. Which is copyright protected of course. Anyway, as of now I am in the posession of some of PSx's biosses. In the readme of Psx4all it says that one has to put the bios in the same folder as the executable and rename the bios to "scph1001.bin". Simple. :)

I can confirm that with the 'fixed' version, these games NOW work:

All games were tested with these settings:
430mhz/Null=ON/Cycle=5/Frameskip 0/1 /no sound version 'fixed'/all loaded WITH Bios/ALL GAMES CBN 9

- Kartia (54 fps Very playable in terms of speed. But, text may be hard to read at times. Interlacing may help)
- Breath of Fire 4 (This game runs amazing @ 7cycles! The FMV runs almost fullspeed 45-50fps!)
- Ace Combat 2 (slow but now working)
- Digimon Card Battle (almost flawless)
- Silent Bomber (slow but working)
- Ace Combat (Faster now, almost perfect.) This one works so well, I really wish it had sound!
- Saga Frontier 2 (moderate speed w/minor graphical glitch on the right-hand side of the screen, but easily playable 30-34fps)  (This one had cycles set to 7) (..And, yes this game looks absolutely beautiful on the A320 screen.)

Im at awe with what's happening on the lil ole Dingoo at this point.  A perfected version of this emu will render my psp almost useless.

Here's some more info that suggests that FPS will not be accurate when raising the cycle multiplier. From the PSX4All readme:
Quote
Increasing the cycle multiplier makes the emulated PlayStation hardware run faster relative to its CPU.This can help speed up games that don't use the CPU much and mostly idle around waiting for the next frame. In other cases, it will not make a difference, or even make the game slower. Don't be fooled by the increased frame rate! If the CPU is too slow to keep up, a high frame rate will be of no consequence.

So make sure you are not just focusing on the FPS when raising the cycle multiplier.Sometimes it will give high fps results, but be slower than a lower cycle multiplier. You'll have to go by feel to see which is faster.

I usually maintain a balance by keeping a standard setting of 5.
I will bump it up to 7 only on certain games that absolutely could harmlessly use the push.  I find that 'text-driven' games benefit from this push best. eg RPGs, etc.

Speaking of the cycles.
I've noticed that it doesn't speed up the whole game, but just some elements of it.
In San Francisco Rush, if I set the cycles to 7, the timer works fast, but the rest of the game is still slow.
And this is hilarious. The timer goes from 60 to 0 in about 60 seconds, and the cars manage to move just like 500m in that time. Time is up, try again :D Impossible to reach the checkpoint.
Also, for some games, cycle 5-7 disconnects the gamepad.

Yeah, check the clock when escaping the reactor core in FF7 during a battle, especially at CM=10.It's going faster then real time, but the characters are moving quite slowly :)

Wooooow!! Forsaken work like a charm w/ the all new and improved Psx4All (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=1183c632be8ad9c790a82c7bb0fad7ade04e75f6e8ebb871) version!! Just set GPU null to On and the Cycle multiplier to 10 and you've got one of the truest 3D action flight shooters ever! Forsaken was famous for the fact that it has a sort of unique gameplay. You really feel like you're flying a spacecraft because you can roll and fly around in all 3 dimensions. Which can be sort of confusing because sometimes your world is upside down. The maps are truely 3D, that is sometimes you have to take a path up, sometimes left, sometimes you have to take the tunnel down.

Wanna show off the power of your Dingoo? Show them Forsaken!  :P

I didn?t test the improved emulator yet, but every iso I converted to cbin format using best compression (9) I had greater speeds. I ran Final Fantasy Tactics in 60 fps, using cycle multiplier in 7 and Gpu On, and Cotton in almost 60 fps too. I will try to upload a video to Youtube afterwards.

This has been explained already, but gonna do it again:
Code: [Select]
./cbin.linux X game.iso game.cbnwhere X is compression level from 1 to 9
It works fine with .iso, .bin, .img, everything that's not compressed already (like .znx)

Quick note for anyone that is doing heavy duty testing like this, its way easier if you have a spare sd card just for the psx, I have a particular card that automatically OC to 430 then boots up psx4all fixed, no dmenu or any other fancy things. I know its a small thing but it really does save time.

ok here is my sd backup for psx4all testing purposes.

It inclide both zimages and root file, please rename your needed zimages just as if you were using toddlers package files
The psx4all version is the new fixed one, it does not include the bios file so go find it or copy it from what you had before

When dingux boots it will automatically OC to 430 and boot into the fixed psx4all. Have fun debugging all :)

Good afternoon guys.
I remember a tip who can be useful for PSX emulation.

Normally, when you have slows emulators, you can use european roms to improve speed. This occours because american TV pattern, NTSC, uses 60Hz refresh rate. Brazilian standart uses PAL-M, a different set of collors but the same refresh rate. But european pattern is PAL-E, who has 50Hz refresh rate. In other words, a european game or iso is programmed to run at 50 fps, as opposed to american isos, who is programmed to run at 60 fps. This 10 fps can be a difference between a playable game and a almost fullspeed game.

I have a bad connection, so it is difficult to me to do tests (im brazilian). But, for those people who have good connections, please test a same game in european and american version, to tell if it have some difference on playability.

Kudos for all.

Yes, but most PAL PS1 games were unoptimized so they will run slower anyway.A NTSC game running at 50fps will be the same speed as the same PAL game running at 50fps.If the games were optimized to run full speed at 50hz, they would also likely require the same amount of power as would a NTSC game running at 60hz.So either way, you're not really gaining anything.

You are obviously using the wrong bios. You should rename 7502 bios to 1001. Then try the game.
If that doesnt work, you need to recheck the validity of your image/bin/cbn file.  The 'fixed' version of psx4all makes them work fine.

Hm, don't know. Makes it even worse using that BIOS, as now I also cannot even read the normal text. I don't understand it, because Einh?nder is working perfectly.

It's just another CD image file like .bin or .nrg. I believe the application MagicISO is usually associated with dealing with these files but psx4all recognizes it.

I can't understand why I'm having these problems....

Nrg is Nero Burning Rom's image format, img is CloneCD and mdf is Alcohol120%. Bin/cue is generic, I believe (audio CD?). Iso is the most general format for a CD-ROM image. Hwever, I was under the impression that the Playstation One used some sort of copy protection. I think that means that one cannot simply copy a psx game CD to an ISO file. I think that's why some use ClonCD etc. for making psx images. And, I think a psx game CD may even have some CD-audio on it for the background music, but I don't know that for sure...

When I try loading a game, I get a debug.txt file:

src/main.cpp, line  847: loaded /boot/local/emulators/psx4all//crash3_warped.bin

Does the problem have to do with the double slash? It seems like it fails to load it...when I select the game to start it, it always displays the double slash. Also, if I open and close folders, I'll see multiple slashes appearing constantly.

Is there any way I can tell psx4all to open a game from like a commandline message?

UPDATE: I switched bios around, here's what happens:

SCPH1001: loads xenogears .bin no compression, no cbin xenogears, no cbin vagrant story, no cbin crash bandicoot 3 (which i ripped to .bin/cue and then converted)
SCPH7502: xenogears stalls at psx screen, nothing else works

UPDATE3: wow, didn't realize cbin files had to be named .cbn, that would've been nice to know...so scph1001 is good for xenogears, while scph7502 makes vagrant story work (not well though)

I have a suggestion for the compatibility list. How about for the games that do work, provide the settings that was used to make the game work. That way users don't have to dig through this topic to find the best settings to get a certain game working.

For Final Fantasy VIII, do not activate the GPU Null option. Activating it seems to slow down the emulation of this game.

I get segmentation faults constantly with Final Fantasy IX, not sure why its listed as playable.

IMG format, tried various bios settings, selecting no bios loads game, but wont start.  Using 7502->1001 renamed bios is ok, but you have to load the game with no changes to the graphics settings etc.  When you start the game (from a saved game, if you dont the screen is black, can just make out the words art director in lower right hand corner), regardless of whether you change settings or not, it crashes in various places.  Longest length of time ive played it is about 60 seconds.

Be nice to know exactly what people are doing to play it.

Final Fantasy VII also does this.  Though the first time I played it I seemed to be ok, then since it crashes either at intro or after.  This is with the 22-10 psx4all build.

Lastly, concerning questions on improvements to PSX4all, by the looks of it, sound will never offer a decent enough frame rate and I can't see the no sound build version going much further.  Its highly unlikely we will see it with at least another 20-30% improvement in performance, there simply isnt enough under the hood to do this, or the technical skils to bascially take the code apart and fully optimize it.  Shame really.  Still hopefully these seg bugs can be addressed, though it doesnt look like this is anything new.  Seems to have dogged PSX4all since in its original release, let alone later ports.

I'm not having any such problems with Final Fantasy VII. I played into the first battle and I had no crashing.

I suggest converting the .img clonecd files to CBIN format. It doesn't seem likely that file format would be responsible for the problems you're having, but I'm not having any problems like yours, and I use the .cbn converted files, and I'm using scph7502 renamed to scph1001. You don't have to convert the files from .img to bin and then to .cbn. Just convert the .img file and it should work just fine.

Make sure the files are named with the extension .cbn. It would've been REALLY nice to know that earlier, as I wasn't able to get anything to load without using the .cbn file extension on cbin converted files.

Just giving it a go now converted to cbn, strange why the first time i booted it up i didnt have issues.  Makes me wonder whether the segfaults are related to something else....

Question, is anyone (other than the post concerning final fantasy 8 and someone asking what bios they were using due to it saying zpc or something like that - which was a group whom patched the original as it detected mod chips) is anyone using patched images or just direct rips of the originals?

might be worth patching them just to see if some games that looked like they froze run?  The copies that detected mod chips used to just show a black screen after the psx logo.  Just a thought.....

If I recall megagames (should be able to find it on google) used to have shed loads of cracks for psx titles.

One thing that shouldnt be too difficult to implement would be a config files for each iso with saved settings for each.  Perhaps having it launch each of the games with their own bioses from indivudal folders.  Would save a lot of time trying different bios/settings for each one.

OK interesting converting the Final Fantasy 7.IMG file to CBN (Compression level 5) didnt make any difference concerning the game crashing and reporting a segmentation fault, what did solve the problem was changing the clock setting from 430 down to 400.  Perhaps the machine is getting too hot.

Might look at seeing if I can mod a bga heatsink to fit in the case, depends on how much free space there is mind.  I did see someone used one of the blanking plates from a PC to make a heat spreader, might be a solution.

All my games are directly ripped from their game discs using Alcohol 52%. No patching at all.

I have noticed that if you try to load a game save without loading the actual game first, psx4all crashes with segmentation fault error.

Please excuse my Ignorance but how do you use the cbin.linux file? I have absolutely no idea how to use it. I've tried Double clicking (in ubuntu), I've tried opening it in the terminal. I've got no idea what to do so please help.

Thanks

No sweat. Open a terminal window and type "./cbin.linux 1 input_CD_image output_image_file.cbn". :) If you want a smaller compressed CD image just replace the 1 with a 9. I always place a copy of the cbin.linux file in the same directory as the CD image for ease of use.

P.S. Make sure that, in the terminal, you're in the same directory as where the image resides. Did you know that you can copy/paste text in a terminal? Just use CTRL+Shift+V to paste into the terminal. Use the TAB key to let Linux complete a command of which you typed in the first few letters. Good luck!

Select + A increases frameskipping, Select + B decreases it. :) in 3d-games, disable poly, sprite and image frameskipping.

Advan Racing (NTSC-J ripped)
~ 25 fps, playable but a bit slow
Autobahn Raser 2 (PAL ripped)

Quake II works, but every time an enemy comes into the game (or there is a lens flare) the game slows down. So every time the PSX has to control two different sets of graphics it slows down considerably. I wouldn't mind that so much, if it were not that the enemy himself does not slow down. That is: his reflexes are good enough to kill you, but you'll have an considerable amount of trouble to kill him. :P So I was in doubt between a blue and an orange rating. But considering the fact that this is Quake II man, that is: a must play game, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and I'll go for an orange (= slower, but playable) rating. ;)

And remember: this is the first game I've come across that appears to need the 'Wall Clock Timing' parameter to be set to 'on' (default is off). I've absolutely no idea what so ever what wall clock timing is: my wall clock always tells the time perfectly!

Yes. It runs, but v.e.e.e.e.r.y s.o.w.l.y.... Zzzzz <yawn>. Overclocking Dingoo's CPU helps, but not enough to enjoy playing the game. Tried some other tricks like upping the cycle multiplier, but had no luck. If the Dingoo had a 800 MHz CPU: different story. ;) So I give it a blue rating.

Yeah, I know that.  But was not able to make Buster Bros work on MAME4ALL, I guess I don't have the compatible ROM, and can't find it anywhere...but I did manage to get Pang and Super Pang to work, so it's just as well.

I was not aware Dingoo would emulate Atari ST.  I was only aware of Atari Lynx in the native firmware, and a Dingux port for Stella, for the atari 2600.

Set that parameter before you start the game. Assuming, that is, you know how to find the settings screen (?). And overclock the Dingoo to > 400 MHz every time before starting Psx4All (the Dingoo doesn't remember the overclock setting). I do not understand exactly what you problem is. The instructions you quoted seem very clear to me, so that's most probably why nobody took the trouble to try to enlighten (help, that is) you some more. In these sort of situations chances are that the person who asked for help found the way to get the game up and running him/herself already.

No, I haven't tried yet, because if I get the EMU, it will be mainly for that one game.  I never got much into the system.  I'm very old-school in my gaming likes/dislikes.  PSX is newer than most of my likes.

No, I haven't tried yet [edit: the game "Dragon Warrior 7" that is], because if I get the EMU, it will be mainly for that one game.  I never got much into the system.
What exactly do you mean? Haven't you got a Dingoo yet? Or didn't you install Dingux (Linux for Dingoo on a SD card) yet? Or haven't you installed psx4all yet (which is really easy :) )?

Haven't installed psx4all, yet...and the main reason I haven't is because...if Dragon Warrior 7 doesn't work, then I probably won't bother at all...which is why I'm asking someone to test it for me.

Name: Dragon Warrior VII
Mode: USA/NTSC
Emulator Version: 20091022
Format: .bin
Frameskip: 0/1
Cycle multipier: 6 (must be 4 or more, or the game will hang at the Playstation logo)
Sound: Off
CPU Freq. : 430mhz
Bios: scph1001.bin
FPS: 40-60, but probably less because of inaccurate readings with raised cycle multiplier.

Game crashes at the first FMV, probably can be worked around by loading a save game from a PC based emulator.I tried a savestate from epsxe but it didn't work, but a proper save might work, and there have been people who have done it in the past e.g FF8.

hummm...does not look very promising. :(

I honestly do not know of any other games I'm particularly interested in with PSX...I'm more old-school than PSX generally is.

It seems that games with 3d cutscenes will crash when it reaches the cutscenes. Unless a way can be found to bypass cutscenes, psx4all will probably only be able to run older psx games (since a lot of the newer ones use 3d cutscenes a lot).

Megaman X5 - Runs without BIOS only, about 40-45 fps, cycle multiplier NO MORE THAN 4 (buttons won't work past 4 for some reason). Playable, but not really fun.

Parasite Eve - Same as above, really.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy - Only boots without BIOS, then freezes at the title screen. Boo.

I have no problem with FF7, FFT, or Castlevania SotN tho. Damn good thing, too.

Wipeout 3 (ripped cbn) plays wonderfully with Wall Clock Timing on, but switch it on in the menu,  or it will get stuck at the Playstation logo.

Just tried wipout 3 SE and yes it runs very nice with wall Clock Timing on  ;D
For fun I put interlace 1 on as well gives it even more speed boost - but gives it a grainy look....

BTW: mine was .bin as it was less than 100meg  ;D

Monster Rancher works great too....

Seems to work very smoothly with these settings.

**EDIT**
I have just booted PSX4ALL again, used the EXACT same settings and now Alien Resurrection is running terribly.  It's jerky, slow.... Just painful.  So why would it run smoothly one time and then after I reset it do everything the same and it does the complete opposite?

C12 Final Resistence (cbin compressed rom only about 50 MB!). Looks fine, bus slow. Expecialy when enemies enter the screen. I tried to fiddle w/ the cycle multiplier setting and with the 'wall clock timing' (cpu = 430 MHz of course!). Didn't help. Orange rating therefore.
Title: Re: PSX4ALL Compatibility List
Post by: Meneer Jansen on November 28, 2009, 09:12:23 pm
Here's what I did: I surfed to 'a certain forum' (cannot tell which: I think it would be illegal) in which download links to extremely compressed files are posted. I downloaded as many files under 10 MB I could find. This was not as easy as it might sound: see my Rapidshare rant topic (http://boards.dingoonity.org/offtopic/i-hate-rapidshare!!!!!!!!!!!!-(rant!)/?topicseen). Extracted them, ran the utility 'COSI.exe' to extract them even further to a *.bin file (included in the archives; even works in Wine/Linux). And then recompressed them to a PSX4All readable format w/ cbin.linux. This left me with some very small CD images ranging from 20 MB to about 100 MB. I tried them out on the Dingoo. I tried to get them working w/ as many fps as possible. I set the CPU to 430 MHz, and tried to speed the games up w/ setting the cycle multiplier to 10 or by setting the wall clock timing on. If the game did not load, I tried to load it without bios.

5 Star Racing (25 MB): To slow to play. Pity: it's a beautiful game.

Apocalypse (24 MB): Does not load.

Deadly Skies (19 MB): Crashes the emulator.

Eagle One Harrier Attack (68 MB): Action flight sim. Runs a little slow, but its such a beautiful game that I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Especially since on the real PS One it appears to run slow too.

Independence Day (19 MB): Action flight arcade. An ugly duckling. Probably a port from the N64 or MS-DOS. But it runs like hell!

Largo Winch (20 MB): To slow to play.

Rising Zan (36 MB): Lame-ass game. Very slow.

Scooby Doo (20 MB): Seems like a beautiful game. Runs very slow, and the graphics are mostly 'obscured' (non visible).

Spec Ops (16 MB): One of the more realistic FPS for the PSOne. To slow.

Ungra Walker (21 MB): The menu's and text dialogue is in Sanskrit or Japanese... Couldn't get past the menu's and the dialogue w/ some sort of Hentai anime chick.

Tomb Raider The Last Revelation (92 MB): Hangs on loading the first level. Some obscured graphics in the menu.

Virus: it is aware ... (21 MB): Nice looking fps/adventure. Set the 'cycle multiplier' to 10 and it appears run just fine. :)

@Meneer Jansen
It seems to me that cycle mult. is a very sensitive option that should be the last thing you try as the wrong value might caule serious troubles, including not loading at all.
Thanks a lot, btw  :)

All though you can do - to make it faster once running....

Try downloading this bios (scph7502.bin) and renaming it to this bios (scph1001.bin) seems to have better compatibility

Adding a few more

Railroad Tycoon II
psx4all 20091022 (no sound)
File format: CBN
CPU Freq.: 400MHZ
BIOS: scph7502
Settings Default except:
Wall Clock Timing: On

Comments: Performance is good and playable at least with just one train running. Wall Clock Timing must be on otherwise it runs very slow. Text is a little hard to read at times on the dingoo screen, it appears a bit squished.

Hot Shots Golf 2
psx4all 20091022 (no sound)
File format: CBN
CPU Freq.: 430MHZ
BIOS: scph7502
Settings Default except:
Cycle Multiplier: 5
Frame skip: 1/2
Frame skip Line: Off
Frame skip Poly: Off
Frame skip Sprite: Off

Comments: Another green game, runs smooth. A little slow but very playable. You get a little speed boost with Frame skip at 1/2 but you need to turn off Frame skip Line, Poly and Sprite to get rid of gfx anomalies. Great game, looks very nice too, one of the best looking playable games I've seen on the Dingoo.

Nectaris Military Madness
psx4all 20091022 (no sound)
File format: CBN
CPU Freq.: 430MHZ
BIOS: scph7502
Settings Default

Comments: A futurstic turn-based strategy game. Speed is good very playable and the 3D-rendered battle sequences runs ok too.

Panzer General
psx4all 20091022 (no sound)
File format: CBN
CPU Freq.: 400MHZ
BIOS: scph7502
Settings Default except:
Cycle Multiplier: 5

Comments: Allied General was mentioned earlier and no surprise Panzer General runs just as good

I got DoDonPachi to work...on RAINE.  Unfortunately, for now, that is only on PC, but if someone would care to try to make a RAINE4ALL...

Also was wondering if it would be possible to make a PSX4ALL with a much more user-friendly interface, like MAME and FBA have.

The user-interface is very unfriendly.  I can't even put the roms in a folder marked ROMS, because then it won't let me open that folder and cruise down my list of games.  I mean, hate to say but the user interface is major unfriendly.

Just tried it very briefly. At 430MHz fs 2/3, bios: scph7502, .img compressed to .cbn it runs pretty slow but somewhat playable. Noticed no gfx errors or stability issues

Command and Conquer: Red Alert Retaliation

CPU: 400mhz
Frameskip: 0/1
Cycle multiplier: 3

Runs smoothly, except it lags a bit when too many units are on the screen. Highly reccomended though!!

Also, Final Fantasy 7 runs nicely!

I read that you need to make a savegame with epsxe and load this with psx4all.  :)

X-COM: UFO Enemy Unknown was mentioned briefly earlier but just for the record let's green this great classic. Runs nicely at default settings. You might have to try different versions because the first one I tried always froze at the PS logo.

X-COM: UFO Enemy Unknown
psx4all 20091022 (no sound)
File format: CBN
CPU Freq.: 400-430MHZ
BIOS: scph7502

Hi all,

Just finally got round to trying out PSX4all. I'm using scph7502 bios, Null gpu off, frameskip 0/1 and cycle multiplier 2. So thought i'd post a few early results:

Theme hospital: Using a full .IMG file. It runs the intro movie fine and then gets to the bullfrog logo and freezes. Anyone else tried this one?
Jade Cocoon story of the tamamayu: Using a .bin file. Runs a little slow but otherwise completely playable. With a fiddle with graphic options I can probably get it running a bit faster. Excellent RPG by the way ;)

hey guys. ive been meaning to post my list of playable games in psx4all for a while now but ive been lazy. i would like to also say
that i have done EXTENSIVE testing with about 60 different psx games and the ones im listing are VERY playable. im not going to bother posting the 50 games that are too slow to play or dont load at all. also i choose to use interlace 1 on most games. it doesnt look as good of course, but it gives a speed up which is worth it to me. anyway...

disruptor ntsc
interlace - 1
cycle - 5

playable

full speed

I HIGHLY recommend this game to fellow dingoo owners. i used to own the original. its a GREAT FPS and
runs full speed on the dingoo.

-----------------------

return fire ntsc
interlace - 1
Cycle - 7

playable

another awesome game thats full speed.

----------------------

abes odysee
interlace - 0 or 1
Cycle - 9

playable

enable abes odysee fix

ALSO people need to realize although it runs at 100% speed with these settings, the game is not playable
at this point. why? anyone who has played it for more than 5 minutes should have realized you CANNOT use the L2 button to
make him "sneak" around sleeping bad guys. you have to hold select and hit L1 and then press left or right. but when you hit left or
right while holding select it changes settings in the emulator and you cant sneak past guys. and you need to do this like 5 minutes into the game. so you cant even get past the first level. anyway please add this note to the list and also if anyone has found a way around this please let me know :)

----------------------

raiden project ntsc
interlace - 1
Cycle - 8

playable

you have to adjust the in game screen settings (start + select while in game)
to fix glitch on right side of screen which is due to the game using
an arcade screen resolution.

------------------------

Twisted Metal ntsc
interlace - 1
Cycle - 9

playable

---------------------------

Twisted Metal 2
interlace - 1
Cycle - 9

playable

-------------------------

Air Combat pal
interlace - 1
Cycle - 9

playable

almost fullspeed?(seems faster than ace combat 2)

------------------------------

Ace Combat 2  pal
interlace - 1
Cycle - 9

playable

almost fullspeed?

----------------------------

Final Fantasy VII NTSC
interlace - 1
Cycle - 4

playable...

gets REAL slow when in overworld

another game that needs to be noted... YES the first part of the game is playable. but once you get into the overworld the rest of the game is NOT playable. am i the only one that has tested ff7 8 9 for more than an hour?? the overworld slows down SO much it is
not playable in my opinion. and then even in the battles its really slow because now you are fighting more mosters at a time instead of like a soldier or 2 at a time. also so you know, you can rename your memory cards from epsxe and use them with psx4all if you dont believe me. load up a ff save further into the game and youll see what i mean. i would take all 3 ff games off of the GREEN list.. but whatever..

----------------------

side by side special
interlace - 1
Cycle - 5

playable

-------------------------

exhumed
interlace - 1
Cycle - 5-6

playable

-------------------

I.Q.
interlace - 1
Cycle - 7-8

playable

-----------------------

super puzzle fighter 2 turbo
interlace - 1
Cycle - 7

playable

a little slow

------------------------

Umihara Kawase SHun - Second Edition (J)
interlace - 1
Cycle - 7

playable

full speed

im assuming the first version is also fullspeed. the only difference is in this one they
removed the cut scenes and added more levels.

-----------------------

so there you go. also i dont use fps skip on any of these. just the settings i listed.

i would also like to say real quick that the main list codiak has posted is not correct.

ace combat 2 is on the slower list yet it runs WAY better than metal gear solid. and why is metal gear solid even ON the green list??
not only is it extremely slow but it glitches up and crashes constantly... well codiak if you read this post please add all the games i listed that you dont already have up to the green list. and add the notes i listed as well please. also if anyone has any comments about the playability of the ff series or metal gear solid id like to hear them. oh and jet moto too, thats another one i had issues with, yet its on the playable list.

later

Hmm, had no crashes with Metal Gear Solid, but i didn?t play far, just to the start of the second level. There is a light glitch just before the elevator, nothing serious i think...
It?s indeed slow, but Wall Clock Timing helped a bit iirc, Frameskip too (disable  poly, sprite and image to get rid of the glitches).

Just tried a few games and not much joy with any of them... Didnt check if they were compatible first tho :)

Tomb Raider 1 - Yeh yeh i didnt check the list.
Tomb Raider 2 - Loads menu and intro video but crashes loading any game level. Tried bios/nobios bin/cbin
Carmageddon - Crashes on first screen
Breath of Fire 4 - Crashes on first screen. I'm sure I read this one should work, so I dont know what I'm doing wrong.  Tried bios/nobios bin/cbin.

Used BIOS scph7502.bin
Mostly used Default settings.
No sound Psx4all build
Disc image files were .mdf renamed to .bin then run through windows cbin compressor I picked up somewhere.  Since tomb raider 2 half worked I don't think I did anything totally wrong.

From what I can see Crash (Bandicoot) Team Racing is a lot like Loony Toons Racing, which does work quite well. Bear in mind that the PSOne games do not have sound and that the Dingoo does not have 3D hardware acceleration. So we Dingoo-ers have our own definition of "quite well" when it comes to next gen (read: 3D) games like the ones on the Playstyation 1.

The Dingoo is a retro 2D classic gaming monster. The working PS1 games are more of a bonus. :)

yeah thats the way i was kinda thinking about it..i still cant decide on a dingoo a wiz a caanoo or a psp..btw do any of you know if the wiz emulates ps1 any better then what the dingoo can cause i was watching videos and it doesnt seem like it can really..ps1 was going to be a bonus for me im leaning more towards the dingoo or a psp..only problem with the psp is id have to buy a pandoras battery and buy a used psp since they dont sell psp 1000s any more..meh any advise?

Sorry. But I don't know anything about other handhelds than the Dingoo. If one wants the latest and the greatest handheld one should visit a more general forum I think... And if I could afford a PSP and a NDS I wouldn't have stumbled upon the Dingoo in my search. The price point is one of the unique selling points of the Dingoo in my opinion.

Anyway, good luck! :)

it looks like the dynarec mips to mips on dingoo's 400 mhz surely do much more for the speed that Wiz could do at 750 mhz.

Just confirmed:

* Crusader: no remorse - works! (one of my personal favourites  ;D )
it runs really smooth with interlace count: 1 , but ingame text get's a bit blurry , pretty tricky for passwords, etc.

* Machine head - I always get past the main menu (using various settings like wall clock timing, frame skip, etc.)
& the first time the game actually worked (very playable) , but afterwards it always crashes after the main menu.
I tried reinstalling the rom, various formats (.bin, .cbin, .img), different settings, the results remain the same.

   Any idea(s)?

Parapa The Rapper - psx4all20091015 - Frame Skip 0/1 - bin - scph1001.bin
Plays fine but no sound, I don't see much point in playing this game without sound.

Army Men Sarges Heroes - psx4all20091015 - Frame Skip 0/1 - bin - scph1001.bin
Works up until you try to load any level, it shows loading progress but stops at some point.
I haven't waited long enough to see if it will actually load.

Star Wars Episode I Jedi Power Battles - psx4all20091015 - Frame Skip 0/1 - bin - scph1001.bin
Freezes at Playstation logo screen.

Gran Turismo - psx4all20091015 - Frame Skip 0/1 - bin - scph1001.bin
Very playable, a little slow though.

If i buy a Dingoo should be for PSX emulation, cuz actually did bought 3 diferent kinds of GBA SP CLONs, that run GBA roms (higher screen size that dingoo)
It worth only for the PSX emulation? actually the games that i want to play are
Crono Cross (sounds hard to play in dingoo)
Digimon World 3 (or Digimon 2003, a longer version of same game)
Crash Bandicoot 3
Dino Crisis 2
Digimon Card Battle
Digimon Rumble Arena
Yu-Gi-Oh games
Pac Man World
and some random others

From what i read some of that games runs good or slow

i want to know about:
Crono Cross
Digimon World 3 (or Digimon 2003, a longer version of same game)

And actually i most care the second one, since its a LOOOOOOOONG game, i have more gameplay hours that Pokemon games with only that game :P

Thanks for anwers about it!

Game: Sheep Raider
BIOS:1001
FS:4/5, Only Poly FS disabled.
Processor Speed:390Mhz
Cycles: 7
Image: CBN compressed lvl 7
Fps: Range from 7 ~ 21 (mostly slow)
Notes: The language selection screen is as slow as hell, and the ingame is slow too, but FMVs and the first cutscene runs fine. A pity that the ingame is too slow.

edit:
Game:Dracula 2: The Last Sanctuary
FS:2/3 or 4/5, whatever you prefer, only Poly FS disabled.
Cycles: 6
Bios: 1001
Processor: 390Mhz
FPS: 25~37
Notes: Game runs fine, FMVs run at perfect speed. The game itself is very simple. Sometimes ingame you will need sound, so, you save the game and use the SPU build. Dunno what happens when it requests Disc 2....

Game:Legend of Legaia
FS: 2/3, Disabled for Poly and Sprite (enabling for sprite makes font blink)
Cycles: 2
Bios:1001
Processor:390Mhz
FPS: With these CFG, it says 17 fps, but i fell like 6 ~ 9.
Notes:No graphic issues, map goes at fine speed, hangs when using "somersault" on traning with tetsu. Using full game rip. Pity, one of the best games i ever played.

Game:Metal Slug X
FS:2/3, Disabled for Poly.
Cycles: 6
Bios: 1001
Processor: 390Mhz
FPS: Seens to be 19~24
Notes: Hangs at first loading screen, FPS bar becomes glitched. Waited 10 whole minutes to see what would happen. Nothing. Play using a NeoGeo emulator, will ya?

Game:Guardian's Crusade
FS: 2/3, Disabled for Poly and Sprite (same text issue from legaia)
Cycles:2 (1 disables gamepad...)
Bios:1001
Processor:390Mhz
FPS: Says 50. Hardly doubt, so i'll stick to the feel. And, it feels like 15~16.
Notes: Game runs quite slowly, no graphic issues. Didnt test battle. If it did run a little faster, then it would be playable. Oh well.

Game:Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Returns
FS:2/3, Disabled Poly and Sprite (text issue...again)
Cycles:10
Bios:1001
Processor:390Mhz
Image: CBN with compression lv 9
FPS: The FPS counter goes completely craze with cycles on 10 here. Sooo, it feels like 10~13. Some parts feel even slower...
Notes: No graphic issues, just that game runs slow. If poly FS didnt bug soo much, i guess many games would be playable. Uli should consider making us happy and try fixing it  ;D

I ripped it from CD using CloneCD (into an img/ccd file). That one contains CD audio tracks which the PSX4All doesn't read so I extracted the first track (the data track). But that will not play...

How did you copy the original CD?

[edit] Wait a minute. The big image (including de CD audio does work! :)

I had seen his post when i tried to play fft. I used this configuration, except for the 2/4 frameskip(it doesn't exist). Gafgarion still doen't move. I played that battle on my pc and transfered the save to my dingoo afterwards. When I started another battle Delita didn't move. I got really angry and sad. Can anyone help me?

Hey folks! I tried to play fft with and without bios and these are the changes: with bios I can play normally until the battle with  gafgarion, in which he stops and does nothing. Without bios I can't go to the memory card screen, because the letters blink and nothing happens after that. When I read michunio's pots, I tried to change the bios, but It didn't help. I tried all the bios I have and they froze on the psx logo screen. I can't even get to the loading screen anymore. After that I remembered that I had made a save state on the loading screen before all this happened. I loaded the state and played another battle with Delita and... HE MOVED!! I don't know what changed but It surely worked. Even though I can't reach the loading screen, I can just load the state and skip It all. Thanks for the help guys!
ps. the game is slow :(

Hello

Hardcore 4x4  european version works very well !nice game! i play it for a long time in sega saturn
configs:
cpuclock=400
framelimit=off
frameskip=0/1
walltimeclock=on
cbin format with level 8 compression
if you want full speed you can turn the interlace to 1 if you want the game with good graphics turn it to 0, but is also very playable

Blast chambers same configs above

Just wanted to chime in on something -- I've read here a few times that Final Fantasy VII is unplayable (too slow) once you reach the world map. I do not have this issue. Using lv9 cbin, SCPH-7502, default options.

Game: Legend of Mana
Settings: Interlace 1, Frameskip 2/3, Frameskip disabled for Sprite and Poly, Cycles at 2.
Bios: SCPH 1001
ISO: Bin iso
Comments: You MUST rip ALL of the FMVs, otherwise the game will hang. Ripping the FMVs makes the game work perfectly. Feels full-speed with interlacing at 1, but its hard to see. Turning it off won't bring speed down too much.

Diablo: line frameskip off. 350 MHz  PSX4All DX 1.0b. Very playable and enjoyable. Disable the line frameskip tu use Automap.

No problem, just the time to figure out how to capture this.

EDIT: I used to have the graphic glitching and crashing problems when I was using the ISO of the game. I converted it to cbin and since, no more trouble.

No...

There's no one, sadly, working on one of the most incredible dingoo emulators.

Shame. The FrameSkip needs a fix, badly.

No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking

SCPH1001 Bios, .bin rip from game CD.
Works fine but a bit juddery. Set Frameskip to 2/3 or 3/5, for a vast improvement set interlace to 1. All line, poly, sprite etc skips set to off.

Game: Railroad Tycoon II
Frameskip: 0/1
Bios: SCPH 1001
Format: .bin

Comment: runs fine with good speed, controls are a bit tricky.  ;)

PS: is there a way to start a PSX game with PSX4All direct from gmenu?

Well, all i know is:
1. be sure to use the newest version of emu
2. Overclock to 430 mhz
3. i use the scph 1001 or scph7502
4. if the game slow try  interlace 1 (i cant stand 2+ )
5. use cycle mutiplyer 7 (no idea what it means srry)
Fell free to correct me . Hope it helped

Bust-A-Move 2
Runs fill speed with interlace 1! Can't use frameskip unless frameskip: sprite is turned off or screen goes black. Leave wall clock timing off.

Tomba
Boots fine without BIOS and intro movie runs almost full speed! Must use wall clock timing. Sadly, I can't play this game because the controls don't work!!! Please fix.

Also by your own quote there anything we download would be illegal as running any Rom would be unlicensed.

Hahaha!

Besides PS1 is one of the platforms where you can rip your own images from games you own without any special hardware, although of course an emulation veteran would know that already....
