FBA320 freezing on game exit
« on: November 06, 2009, 05:48:01 pm »
Most of the time, when exiting a game, instead of returning back to the menu (FBA menu), it freezes, and you have to reset. Mostly noticed with Neo Geo games.

EDIT: I think this is ONLY happening with Neo Geo games? Any solution?

I don't believe I've ever had this problem...are you sure you're using the proper bios? Er, more importantly, you did make cache files for the neo geo games right? Neo Geo games will not work properly without cache files.

Nope, didn't. They worked fine zipped, so I thought why should I make cache files, as they're much bigger.

You have to make the cache files for large games (meaning ALL neo geo games) because the Dingoo doesn't have enough RAM to load up games like that. The roms have to be streamed, and to do that, they have to be in the .fba cache format.

But the games load well, and you can play them at full speed, they only freeze when you reset the emulator to return to the menu where you can chose another game. And bigger games even don't work in .fba format either.

Btw, then I also could convert them to .mvs files and play on native Dingoo. Which files will be smaller, .mvs or .fba?

I'm not sure...I'm guessing the MVS converter caches files similarly to the FBA cache maker. Final Burn Alpha definitely runs games faster than the built in emulator though, so I would just convert them to FBA for final burn alpha (you don't keep the zip file and the fba file on the Dingoo at the same time either, just the .fba)

(I know ;))

I will check how much bigger the files are once converted.

Tested now with 2020 Super Baseball:

- zip file = 2.866 kB
- mvs file = 6.583 kB
- fba file = 8.682 kB

So .fba is definitely the biggest.

EDIT:
- mvs file works perfect on native OS
- zip file works perfect on FBA, but crashes the console on exit
- fba file doesn't work, loads, then screen stays black

For fba conversion, the neogeo.zip bios file must be in the roms folder, along with the rom your trying to convert.

Aha, there was the whole problem, I never had the neogeo bios in the converting folder, doing so made it work fine. Thanks.

But anyway, I tested the games also now in the native emulator as .mvs file, and they run as fast as in FBA. There's even the advantage that the .mvs file is a lot smaller compared to the .fba file, and in the native emulator you can at least pause the game.

I only wish cheats would now work ;)
