Emulators not showing up?
« on: October 16, 2009, 11:54:13 pm »
I just installed Dingux, but I can't seem to get any of te manually added emulators to show up in the menu. I used the config settings in the dmenu config for the emulators to show up in dmenu, but I end up getting an error message on start up of dingux saying that something is missing. Please, if someone can shed some light on what I need to do, I'd really appreciate it, thanks in advance.

It is crucial, that you use the correct syntax in the demu configuration file.

To add an emulator, copy a folder with the emulator to local/emulators and open demu/themes/base/menu_emulators.cg (if you are using a different theme go the the subfolder of the theme too). Add the desired emulator here.

Here is an example for PSX4all and ColEmu.

Code: [Select]
MenuItem PSX4All
{
Icon = "res/emulators/psx4all.png"
Name = "  PSX4All"
Executable = "./psx4all_sound"
WorkDir = "/usr/local/emulators/psx4all"
}

MenuItem ColEm
{
Icon = "res/emulators/blank.png"
Name = "  ColEm"
Executable = "./dingux-colem"
WorkDir = "/usr/local/emulators/dingux-colem"
}

For the PSX4All you have to copy an icon named psx4al.png to the folder res/emulators of the theme folder you are using.

Ok, I already put the emulators in the local/emulators folder, but res is the only folder in the demu folder. Also, what do you mean by theme?

He's talking about editing the theme you are currently using. There are separate .cfg files for each theme. I'm using toddler's, for instance. Follow the yellow brick road:

local\dmenu\themes\toddler\menu_emulators.cfg

I'm trying to get FinalBurn Alpha(CPS1, CPS2, Neo Geo), gnuboy(Game Boy Color), and NoFrendo(NES) emulators installed and it says on dingoowiki that I just need to place the emulator itself inmto the local/emulators folder, then use the menu command in dmenu.cfg, but like I said, when I do this, I get an error saying something is missing. The only folder I have within the dmenu folder is a folder called "res". But within the dmenu folder is dmenu.cfg.

I use Toddlers Dingux pack and add the emulators, that are released manually to his cfg. If you just want to try these emulators, I would recommend his pack to you too, everything is preconfigured and ready to go.

Thanks, and sorry about that, I recently found out about the new "local" files and I downloaded the new local0.30 update with all the emulators.
