Something i'm working on :)
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:22:25 pm »
Hey

i decided to make a little game again (from scratch) for dingux. I never tried a shooter so i'm messing with that atm :)

I'm having a bit of trouble defining enemy movement though and i don't want to use waypoints but i'm still messing with it :)

here's a wip Video of what i have done in 2 days :

Lets hope i finish this project some time hehe

i'll probably post some more movies on my youtube account so you can follow progress :)

:D and i thought you sucked at programming

you should define certain movement parrterns for certain variations of enemies (in code/in file), and have some sort of descriptive language/etc for moving them, so that the move() function can just read their pattern and update each one as necessary, can get very complicated patterns that way (assuming you code it properly)*

oh and get back to those improvements you said you'd make to gmenu  :P

added a little starfield, and messed a bit with bullets ... Bullet hell here we come lol :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdPQaHmrPyw

btw i test it often on the dingoo and the dingoo can run it without problems at a steady 50 fps (which i capped it at :))

btw darfgarf, i'm currently just experimenting with the movement i basically want to make a fixed set of predefined movements (in code) since i want to make a level editor as well for the game :) so that people just can place An Enemy object with some properties at some specific map coords and choose the movement type (that's why i want a predefined set) :)

but if you store the movement types in a file, and load them on startup it opens a load more possibilities

oh and add more bullets, always need more, and either a hitbox indicator(a la touhou) or a huge hitbox like raiden :D

yeah but i don't see how i can do that :)
unless using some scripting language and i'm not going to go that route :)

i basically have X,Y, Angle, Speed as variables to play with for the enemy movement, but i can't load patterns from a file either since that will be done in the level editor. (you will have to place an enemy ship on a virtual map position (see it like a viewport) and define initial speed, angle and movement type.

One could probably go as far as add some ai concepts to merge diffrent behaviours but i'm not up for that yet :p (like flocking etc)

Another movie showing a initial work of the level editor :

and that's the difference between us  :P

i'd do something like
time offset    direction/co-ords/etc
0                 first direction/etc
2.5              different direction/something

then just load it into each types object on load  :D

maybe i should get round to writing that shooter i started ages ago XD
