overclock with tvout tutorial
« on: June 28, 2010, 06:13:00 pm »
Here's a quick Tutorial on how to get TV-out to work with overclocked Dingux in Gmenu2x:

First make sure you have Sience's kernel and TVTool with OverClock
http://github.com/uli/dingoo-tvout
http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingux-releases/kernel-by-sience-(updated-boukichi's-kernel)-tvout-rtc-swap-poweroff/

0) Install the new kernel - http://sience.schattenkind.net/dingoo/dingux_kernel_100619_by_SiENcE.zip
1) Copy the TVout tool anywhere on your sdcard in dingux -  http://sience.schattenkind.net/dingoo/tvout-dingoo_2010-06-18.zip
2) Create a link to the TVout file
3) Set parameter to : --speed 410     (or whatever speed you want to clock too)
4) Set the Menu speed to 410 (or whatever speed you set on the TVout parameter)
5) Make sure all the apps you want to run are set to the new speed as well.
6)Your done :)

Now I may have missed something here, so feel free to ask questions..

Thanks to Uli and Sience for helping me get this to work.

You can leave point 4 & 5 if you take a gmenu2x version that do not change anything with clocking speed.

I think uli has released a new gmenu2x binary.

But not yet tested!

I've tried the trick with the latest version of gmenu2x and it doesn't seem to work. either it freezes when it launch or "Close DMAC_DCMD_LINK" shows up on the handheld screen and then the whole thing freezes.

I followed the instruction but did not work.
What about the PAL/NTSC parameters? Are they not required anymore?

It is finally working!!

But I have some questions:

-Some one here figured out how to run picodrive without problems on tv out? Maybe it has relation with the 8-bit redering?

-I have seen some people talking about the delay of the tv-out with regard to the lcd. You can note it by the delay on the sound of dingoo in regard to the dingoo's speakers. Sometimes the delay is bigger, sometimes Tv-out runs perfectly syncronized. So, Is the lacks of synchronism a limitation or a bug?

That is interesting, but I noticed my new LCD tv has lags with anything connected via the analog socket. That includes Dingoo native/dingux and two of my cameras. The same Dingoo runs fine on my old analog TV.

Strange...
Don't you think the Dingux need to be a little polished, I mean, Tv-out is awesome, but the bugs are bad. Playing PicoDrive on Dingux is awsome, but generally, in a critic moment, Dingux make a hiccup and you get killed by Robotnik. Thanks to God, the card corruption never happened with me, but some people says that there is a percentage.
Is there any chance of these bugs be fixed?

Got it going in color , could only OC up 413, 414 would make it go Black and white, still really great work!

im playing SF2 hyper fighting on a 20inch tv (ithink durr) and it looks and runs great!! finally can play SF2 with out slowdowns!! i tryed on a bigger 29inch and it looks abit blurry

If only there was a way to shut up the crappy speakers when using tv out

If only there was a way to shut up the crappy speakers when using tv .

You could always just plug something into the earplug slot :)

Also Solstice , to overclock further without the black and white issue just set the menu speed to a higher value and match everything to that value.

By menu speed I mean set the" parameter" to say --speed 430 then set everything to 430 (Is that what you did?). And sometimes the speeds dont match up perfectly, you may have to drop or raise the app/emu speed a couple of mhz to get rid of the black and white.

Other than that I'm not sure what else to say.

Uh, how do you do a symbolic link on a fat 16 filesystem with -speed 400 --pal (for example) ll?
I'm kind of missing something

Just wanted to push this again, sorry. I don't get how you do use the parameters on a fat32 / fat16 filesystem?

Where do I type --pal / et cetera?

A symbolic link is hardly possible on such a filesystem.

In gmenu2x add a shortcut/link to the tvout oc tool by pressing select and then "add link". Then press select and edit the tvout link, go down to Parameters and enter "--speed 400 --pal". Dont forget to create a tvout off link with parameter "--off"
