Mpd port with gmenu2x controls
« on: May 20, 2010, 08:02:33 pm »
Hi guys,

I got my dingoo a month ago. Its a real cool thing to have.  :)
Well I started using dingux and messed a bit with the toolchain.
I saw a thread here where someone asked for a way to listen to music while playing games.
So here we go

mpd for dingux  :D

Its just a "quick" port mp3 and ogg vorbis are supported.
I added some very simple scripts to control the mpd server with gmenu2x.
There should be a new section to control playback of your music if you have gmenu2x installed (I use the santino local pack).

greetings from Germany

Hi,

really cool. Why not adding this directly to gmenu2x?

I do not know if my stupidity, but until now I could not rotate it ... Where do I put the songs? It seems he did a "search" in the first time I went to use it, but since then not hear any music... :-[

Would be even better, if someone ported that gp2x/wiz mpd-client ;)

I love mpd's networking capabilities, sad those don't make that much sense on the dingoo ;)

any way to get a GUI for this? It'd be nice to be able to see which songs are in the playlist and be able to sort through them instead of adding them in a certain order. Also a stop/exit feature would be nice too. Great release though, I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. It finally prompted me to upgrade to an 8 gb card. thanks so much

edit: anyone else experiencing finicky playback with this program? I can only seem to get it  to play one file and sometimes it doesn't even play that.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for being away for some time.
I am a bit busy at the moment.
As soon as I have time for things like this I will try to port ommpc (mpd player from the gp2x).
I did add some new scripts too well its still not very fancy but it works for now.

thanks for the update, exciting stuff.

still having issues though: the 'mpd' and 'playlist' scripts both just launch a blank terminal that won't kick back into the menu and require a reset. still having the same issues with playback, it doesn't seem to play any of my mp3 files now.

The playlist script stays open until you press start ;-).
If you are starting mpd for the first time it takes a while to finish.

Do you have a linux PC?
You could connect to the dingoos mpd trough usb network  ;D works pretty well.

My scripts are a bit buggy but once you setup an playlist it works good enough for me.  ;)

Altough i added a music using the addsong, i cant seen to play it.

I know, i have to do in the following order:

mpd > addsong > (add son to playlist i suppose) > play

But this doesnt seem to be working.

An "remove song" just displays "Launching remove song", and i have to restart the wholoe thing.

Ideas? Really wanted a background player on dingux.

(im using sience's kernel with swap, if someone could send me the main script with automatic swap enabling, i would be greatily apreciated)

Hmm if I do exactly the same like you it starts playing my song.
Try something like clear plalist and update database maybe it will work then.

edit: Maybe your volume is just set to 0?

After editing addsong parameters and erasing "parameters" and "directory" along with disabling browser, it works. Thing is, it doesnt add a song, it adds the entire SD card, which includes game sounds and other things...

I cant add a especific sound, if i try, it returns me an error on the log:

error:directory or file not found

And when i look in parameter under edit addsong, there is a file path with some strange backslashes (like double ones)

Ideas? I tried it when it added the whole SD card, it works very well, congrats.

And del song doesnt work, just freezes when launched.

Though your mpc shortcuts work, I decided to write a little pygame based client myself (after helplessly trying to port ncmpc) :)
So far it works on my desktop running mpd, but I am not able to get id3 infos from your mpd port. Is it my mistake or are filenames all i will ever get from it?

Regards jmi
