Is it possible to use the dingoo as a joypad for VBA?
« on: February 05, 2010, 06:30:04 pm »
The title says it all, really. There's nothing worse that when I'm playing a GBA game on my Dingoo and the battery runs out.

I can connect the Dingoo to the PC, charging it while I play the game on VisualBoyAdvance, carrying on from my last save, but I HATE using a keyboard to play. Using the Dingoo as a joypad while it charges would be fantastic!

I have VERY little programming experience so I've got no idea how hard a job this could be, but maybe it could be possible within Dingux...??

(BTW, because the Dingoo went off and I didn't exit the emulator, I lost a couple of hours worth of Pokemon Sapphire play time...)  :'(

Is there ANY way I could get my pc to recognize my Dingoo as a joypad?   ???

Thanks in advance! (Karma will be plentiful if you can help...  ;D )

it's been suggested before, and it's on the dev to-do list :D  just got to think of a decent way of doing it that would work in windows

(maybe get windows networking to the dingoo over usb nicely, then write a driver of somesorts to take data and generate the joystick keypresses)
though you'd still need to get round the driver signing for 7 etc, so it oculd take a while :P

Bah, I was hoping it wouldn't be that big a project.  :-\

If there's any devs out there with some time on their hands, this is something I think a lot of users would appreciate!!

(Well, me anyway)  ;D

Edit: What about a Dingux app that kind of emulates itself so when you plug in the usb it fools Windows into thinking it's an existing gamepad? Or is that just idiotic? hehe  :D

wayhey, nice one darfgarf! It's guys like you that make a Dingoo worth owning! +karma  ;D

I'll be waiting with baited breath for this one!

Edit: I found a similar app for the psp, MAYBE it could help... http://www.psp-hacks.com/2010/01/04/fusa-gamepad-v0-3-released-turn-your-psp-into-a-pcps3-game-pad/  ;D

Good luck on this one, I'm hoping it can be done!

;D  so far nothing, except a few little attempts at generating system-wide keypress events/etc so that a reciever program can generate them and other programs don't need anything special to recognise it...it's very platform specific, so will take a while, no getting hopes up for any magic, as it will be a while

Bah, I was half hoping it might be as simple as recoding the psp thingy... But I'm optimistic like that!  ;D

Good luck on this one fellas, the Dingoo would make a fantastic USB controller, well better than half the crappy ones out there!  :D
