Howto get the current clockspeed (mhz) from Dingoo?
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:52:39 pm »
During my work on Snes9x i realized, that some Apps have a clockspeed Setting in it. The problem is, that no App checks, what is the current clockspeed. Every App just sets an initial clockspeed and saves this value on his own. But if you change the App, maybe from Snes9x back to gmenu2x ... the clockspeed is lost and gmenu2x sets it's own clockspeed.

This is anoying, just because i can set the clockspeed in gmenu2x for every single app, and i want to display and use this clockspeed in Snes9x. And then, if someone wants to change it in Snes9x, he can do it there.

So...anyone understand my english :-) ? Does anyone have an function howto get the current clockspeed from Dingux?

Hey, Did you found a way to do this?  :)
Im planning to make an app for dingux, and this info would be useful...

Mh no :-(.
I also need it, because everyone adds an set clockspeed option, but no one can check, what the current clockspeed. Thats evil.

Dingoobench is from me but i think this didn't help. It only calculates the time between 2 calculation steps.

gmenu2x can pass the clock speed info via command line?
A little dirty, but will work =P

Yes i had also this idea. But therefore gmenu2x has to be modified or i totally remove this feature, just because everyone can set the clockspeed in gmenu2x for every application.

Should i remove it?

hmmmm... If you remove it will always run in the desired clock speed, so i vote YES, but the problem is telling this to users =P
They will forget to overclock it and blame: "this sh*t is slow" =(

So, maybe, by default it could use the linux menu?s clock speed (dont set the clock at the start of the program, and show some text like "auto" in the overclock option in menu.), but the user could change this value as you can now (just set the clock inside snes9x if the user inputs).

Good Idea? Bad Idea? =P

I was told that there is no way to read the current clock speed, but since it's nothing confirmed, I was holding this up.
But since there is no new info on this topic, I decided it's time to post my (probably false) information :)

@RodrigoCard: I think this Idea is the only solution, if we can't find a way to detect the clock speed.

:-( . I hope we find a solution.

all I could find is 2 files which can help. (probably won't but its better than nothing
the files are as follows:

/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
/proc/cpuinfo

hope this helps

did that work?

if not:

The question is, does this app sets the clockspeed and tell you this...or does this app. read out the clockspeed from the dingoo :) ?

It reads the clockspeed from the dingoo, but you need access to hardware registers, so I assume it'd need to be added into a driver or some part of the dingux kernel.

Yep i have already seen this in your code. I will try it.

If this works, i will try to modify Snes9x and gmenu2x. Since i want the clockspeed directly from the dingoo and not from an app. that thinks it know the right value.

Thx.

Have you taken a look at the new UAE4ALL from Chui? This Emulator is capable of displaying the clockspeed I set in gmenu2x.
