[QUESTION] Available free ram in dingux?
« on: May 13, 2010, 04:41:14 am »
Hi, i just wondered how much ram is available to the user in dingux, because i used the free command and it seems there
is only ~15 MB of free ram, is this normal?.  And if it is, is there anyway to get more free ram, because I really need some extra ram for Oldplay ;).

assuming you were using telnet, that uses some ram etc but once you launch a program, there should be somewhere around 27MB free (nupdf is a 7MB file, max pdf size is about 20 before failing).

Mmm, thats strange if i run free just after telnet it says there are only ~15 MB free, if launch OldPlay around 5MB remain.
It is the same with other apps, only 15 MB are available. Could you tell which rootfs and zImage are you using?.  I'm using the ones from elta's post.

eltas aswell, pay attention to how much ram telnet is using, and other things like that.  when you're not connected, it's using the minimum for everything, with the menu ontop, when i was trying big pdfs to see how high i could go, having telnet with top running used about 4-5MB of ram.  if you're programming something, just keep going until you hit the limit, swap is possible, but it'll be slow, and wear out the sd card if used for everything

Thanks for the answer, i just found some other things, first i was using a zImage with the IPU enabled so that was taking 4MB of ram,
correct me if i'm wrong, tested with booboo's original zImage and now i see around 19 MB free.  Also i found that using a static build
takes less ram when launching the app.  The static build takes arount 2MB and a dynamic build takes around 8MB : ???, why is that?
