Is there no way to increase the CPU speed? I have been looking at the kernel code, specifically:

https://github.com/dmitrysmagin/a380_kernel/blob/jz-2.6.32/arch/mips/jz4750d/cpufreq.c

The maximum clock seems to be set from u-boot. Can this be some how tweaked or configurable from the outside world?

As this is the cpufreq driver, you should communicate with it via /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/* interface.
http://www.pantz.org/software/cpufreq/usingcpufreqonlinux.html

However, the driver is limited to 432MHz max. To make it higher, the clocks for other devices should be altered as well (you might know this comparing with gp2x). Actually, I didn't dig so deep, so I can't help further.

Has anyone else experience this issue?

When I am developing on my A380, I'm using Windows XP.
I copy files on using the USB connection, and then eject from the Windows Desktop. I usually leave the cable plugged in.
Quite often, my A380 will crash. It pauses, goes black... Then the screen goes white. It's resetting.
If it's not plugged in, it seems to be fine.

I never had this issue. But I never leave the cable plugged in.

It does disconnect sometimes from my computer when I'm copying files to it. This seems to be some sort of compatibility issue between the Dingoo A-380 and my Linux computer. I never experienced this with my Windows 7 X64 computer.

This happened a lot more with the original Dingoo A-380 MicroSD card. It's a lot better with the SanDisk MicroSD cards but it isn't bullet proof. To make it bullet proof I just remove the MicroSD card from my Dingoo A-380 and copy the files from my computer to the MicroSD card.

Edit:

Also a MicroSD that has been formatted to FAT32 from Windows needs to be reformatted to FAT32 from Ubuntu/Linux. There must be a difference how Windows and Ubuntu formats to FAT32.

You 're also uisng MAC OSX so maybe you just need to reformat it or if it's already screwed up start all over again and wipe the MicroSD card clean.

The new Dingoo A-380 Custom Firmware V2.10.27 "Santo" is available for download.

Now you can start most of the emulators located on the external MicroSD from CFW Emulators on your Dingoo A-380. The menu item SDL Games is removed because it is no longer needed with the new kernel.

Note: The mame and ps emulator that came with the console can be found in the folder Old that has been added to the emulator pack. There's currently no MAME emulator in the emulator pack because Slaanesh didn't release it yet.

Updated the CFW Emulator Pack with a new PSX4All version.

If you already downloaded the Emulator Pack you can download the updated PSX4All here: http://www.putlocker.com/file/30B8027275723A70

MAME4All V1.0 has been release by slaanesh. You can find it here: http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingoo-technology-a380/dingoo-a380-mame4all-v1-0-released/

Note: It's recommended to use virtual memory with MAME4All. An explanation how to enable it for the CFW, to make it possible to start MAME4All from CFW Emulators, is posted in the thread.

Hi Alien Gray thanks for what you did.

I tried to installed and I had 2 problems:
-First: I have a dingoo A380-e and when I open it there is no internal sd card (it seems to be a microship instead)
-Second: I coped the img on a sd card and could not see the ALIEN_GREY1 Partition as a windows disk (but it looks fine from the MiniTool Partition point of view)

My questions?
Can I still install your firmware without having an internal sd card? What should I do?
Why can't I see the disk ALIEN_GREY1? I should copy the "emulators" and "vmlinux" folder on it, am I right?

Thanks,
Pierre

Hi Pierre,

It's impossible to run the Dingoo A-380 CFW on a A-380e.

Thanks Alien Grey,
The original firmware of the a380e is not even able to save progression of a nes game.
This is very disappointing.
Do you know if I can install Dingux on the a380e? it seems that it is also not possible!

I don't know if it's possible or not.

I can imagine that you're not happy with it and so am I. It just shows that whoever build this A-380e console has no idea of what they're doing or they don't have any respect at all for the Dingoo A-380 community.

There's a new Dingoo A-380 CFW version available for download.

This new version fixes the problem with the MAME4All virtual memory. Copy the MAME4All files to the emulator folder on your Dingoo A-380 external MicroSD card. Start MAME from CFW Emulators on your Dingoo A-380. The first time you start MAME it's going to create the virtual memory file. It takes some time to create it so wait patiently.

The Dingoo A-380 MAME4All can be found here: http://www.slaanesh.net/

It's been really quiet around here but that's going to change. There's going to be a nice update for the Dingoo A-380 CFW.

If all goes well you can expect an updated factory kernel to fix the compatibility issues with the new one and still have all the necessary fixes. This is going to make the new no longer necessary so we only need one kernel. There's going to be an update for the NES and FinalBurn Alpha emulator by d_smagin.

There's also going to be an update for MAME4All and the GBA emulator by Slaanesh.

If all goes well you can expect all of this soon so stay tuned.  ;)

The new Dingoo A-380 CFW V2.11.04 "Exmortis II" is available for download.  :)

What's new:

1. The kernel has been replaced with an updated factory kernel. The kernel has been updated by d_smagin for better compatibility. A second kernel is no longer needed except maybe for charging the battery. It's still possible to boot the factory kernel with the VMLinux files to charge the battery if necessary.

2. There's a new dmenu item added to enable and disable the swapfile. The first time you change the Swap in dmenu to On it's going to make the 128MB swapfile. This takes some time so wait patiently till you hear the "Plop" sound and the icon animation continues.

3. The CFW Nintendo emulator has been updated by d_smagin to version 2.2.2. This version has improved sound and a full screen scaler.

4. The CFW FinalBurn Alpha emulator has been updated to version 0.2.96.86. This version supports more games but does no longer support .fba format.

5. The dmenu items Capcom System 1, Capcom System 2 and NEO-GEO from CFW Emulators has been removed.

Note: Don't use Swap if you don't need it. Enable it when necessary and disable it when no longer needed.

Enjoy another fine CFW release.  ;)

Edit: Changed swapfile size from 192MB to 128MB because of freezes while playing games. If you downloaded the CFW Emulator Pack before this message than you've got to delete swap folder from your Dingoo A-380 and replace it with this one: https://www.firedrive.com/file/D7F780278FDBD583

Hi Alien Grey!

Thank you

It isn't normal that they run slow. Everything should run just fine like before.

There is an issue with the CFW FinalBurn Alpha emulator and swap. The only thing I can do to make it a little better is move the swap file to the external MicroSD card for the next CFW version. This improves loading times a lot for the CFW FinalBurn Alpha emulator but it still doesn't fix the stuttering and freezes with very large NEO-GEO ROMs.  :(

I ordered a SanDisk SDHC 32GB Class 10 MicroSD card to try to improve the read/write times to the swap file. I'm not sure if it's going to work with the Dingoo A-380 but I give it a try.

I think that you mean that the emulators that came with the Dingoo A-380 are slow. There's nothing anyone can do about that because there's no source code available for the emulators that came with the console to fix and update them.  ???
