Manic Miner V11
« on: November 14, 2009, 06:23:10 am »
Hello all,
This is Manic Miner !!!!
This game was on ZX Spectrum some "long" time ago (in our galaxy ^^).
The goal is to guide Willy through 20 caves ... Not so easy ...

How to play :
Install the APP file in GAME directory of the Dingoo. Go in 3DGAMES menu, and
select manicminer.app tu run the game.

New version which fix :
Quote
V1.1 : 14/11/2009
# Change palette brightness
# Fix hang when quit and play again

Enjoy !

Download here : ManicMiner V1.1

And source code here (because it's only a port of Andy Nobles "Manic Miner" version) : Manic Source code

The color palette adjustment is most appreciated. I have been addicted to this game for the last few days. Thank you for all your work!

Brutally difficult game, I love it!

Some feedback (couldn't figure out how to PM you, sorry)

- I like the music, but it gets drowned out by the jumping sound effect, and my son gets really bitter with me any time I finish a level because of the loud buzzing sound it makes as it counts the Air bonus down.

- You have to jump into the warp at the end of level 4, meaning that you often end up jumping right at the start of level 5 (Eugene), and it's really easy to die in the process.  Personally I'd prefer it if the jump also didn't "auto repeat" because I often end up jumping to my death.  So I would argue the "is jumping" flag should always be cleared at the end of every level at the very least.  I think the ideal behavior would be that if you release and press jump any time during the jump animation, you'll jump again as soon as you hit the ground.  But if you hold the button down, you won't jump until you release it again and press?

- [EDIT] I'd argue that the "is jump button down" flag should be cleared on both level completion and player death.  Otherwise it's too easy to die during a jump and then the level resets and you incorrectly jump right away and die again immediately.

From looking at the source code it's impossible to trigger the existing cheat on the A320.  Personally I wouldn't mind a Super Mario Bros-style "hold some buttons down when pressing start to resume on the last level" -- I'm getting *really* sick of those first five levels as I try to beat the sixth.  I know that's old-sk00l, but you still have to start from the beginning if you want a higher score.

Thank you very much for contributing this awesome game (and making it native!),

-Dave

Couldn't get past level 1! :D I had to delete the game to preserve the physical integrity of my Dingoo.

I played the original Manic Miner on a Spectrum. The Dingoo port is no more or less relentless than the original.  :D

Never really understood its appeal though. I preferred Jet Set Willy.

Jet Set Willy was a brutal monster of a game, never managed it to get past the first levels. It had an awesome cover art. :)
