Chip World 1.0
« on: May 25, 2010, 09:12:48 pm »
Chip World 1.0 has finally been released!

PLEASE NOTE: To play you need CHIPS.DAT from the windows version of Chip's Challenge. I'm sure Google can help.

Quote
*** What is Chip World ***

Chip World is a complete re-implementation of the Windows version
of Chip's Challenge.

Help Chip win the respect of Melinda, to join the Bit Busters club.
For this, Chip must complete a number of challenges set up by
Melinda.
Chip must collect all the required micro chips to be able to pass
the socket, and get to the goal.

For more information, read the hints ingame by stepping on the
hint tiles.

If you're having problems completing a level, you have 5 skip
credits you can use to skip levels. To get the skip credits back,
simply go back and complete a skipped level.
You can skip levels from the in-game menu.

Somewhere along the way I got tired of trying to emulate all the
glitches in the windows version of Chip's Challenge.
As a result of not doing that, some levels which were partially
broken in the windows version now works as intended.

*** Custom levels ***

Apart from the official Chip's Challenge levelset you can also use
custom levels.
Just be aware though that custom levels that exploits some bugs in
Chip's Challenge might not work correctly.

If you want to make your own levels, look into a Chip's Challenge
level editor (for example ChipEdit)

The save file name uses crc32 to differentiate between different
chips.dat files. So if you use a custom dat file, it will
automatically use another save file.
There is however no GUI to select dat-files at the moment, so
you'll have to replace chips.dat

*** Custom music ***

To play your own music instead of the built-in, place an ogg file
called ChipWorld.ogg in the same folder as ChipWorld.app.

The ogg file should be encoded to 44100 Hz, 16 bit, and stereo.
Most ogg files you'll find are in this format.

*** Controls ***

A to enter menus, B to go back.
Start + Select anytime to quit.

DPAD                Move Player
Start               In-game Menu
B                   In-game Menu
X                   Restart Level
Y+Left/Right        Change Level
Y+Up/Down           Change Volume

No I will get this, but the further you get the longer each level takes. First levels was like running through. But its a really great addition to the native dingoo games.

hehe I'm sure you'll have use of the skip level option, some levels are VERY hard.

Yeah, great work. Nice to see (at least  ::) ) it on native firmware.
Just one thing, who made the new graphics, they are really nice ?

Yes, I spent quite a lot of work on this, so in the future I will try to move it to more platforms aswell. But you know Dingoo native is my primary target :)
My friend Daniel (not a member here) made the graphics (he also made the music btw). He doesn't have any central place with his art, so I'll just link his photography site for now: Kvarfordt Photography

Thanks all!

Gotta admit it's a nice distraction from doing work, I always loved chips challenge and this is a really good remake.
