Time stamp when watching movie

Is there a way to hide the time played and time remaining that plays above the video?  I tried all the buttons, but all I got then was an iPhone style on screen display that wouldn't go away..

when you go to videos in the xmb scroll down to video option and you turn it off there. it tells you how to do it in the instruction booklet that came with the device.
