I dropped the dingoo on tile floor
« on: November 04, 2009, 04:23:47 pm »
I dropped the my dingoo on tile floor as i was running somewhere and this is what happened;

sdcard flew off to some random direction,
original firmware was playing an mp3 song off of the sdcard, it stopped playing
the screen stayed lit with the media player frozen.
"Oh well" I though while looking for a small screwdriver to hit the reset button.
reset didn't work. Screen was still showing media player in a frozen state (and lit)
I was baffled that reset didn't work. This means something very bad.
5 minutes later I was in front of a pc and plugged the frozen and brightly lit dingoo to usb port.
Nothing happened.
Windows didn't find any new device, even and "unknown" one.
dingoo was still showing frozen media player screen.
Time to open up the case, I opened up the case planning to disconnect and reconnect the battery as we do with frozen cellphones.
But this is at the end a cheap Chinese product, a connector for battery costs money, and due to cost saving there is no connector of battery and circuit board. So I cut the red wire that was soldered onto the main board and battery, and the dingoo was dark.
Then I reconnect the wires, nothing. I soldered them together. I hit reset button and the screen became white!
That's it, eternal whitescreen of death. After some inspection inside I realized that the battery had been stuck onto a tiny coil, and the coil had broken off the circuit board, probably due to shock of the drop.

Don't drop your dingoo, it's not recommended.

Have you tried soldering the "coil" thing back on? I feel sorry for ya man, it sucks when something you like breaks.

While still waiting for my dingoo from Gameyeeeah, I have a question. Dingoo doesn't have a "hole" to put on a stringy thing to secure it around your wrist, does it? Like there are on the cameras, cells, etc.
So what would be the next best thing to secure it. Even with hard case you can still drop it while taking it out, if you're extremely unfortunate.

I couldn't solder the coil thingy back on, it's way too tiny and one of those new smd type coils. I doubt that is the problem though, that coil is probably just for FM reception. I don't really have any idea what happened, maybe NAND got disconnected? got erased? CPU got disconnected? The soldering on the mainboard looks flimsy so any high enough G force could break a random solder joint. I feel very down. I had many video radio shows and mp3 podcasts and stuff on queue. Worst part is the dingux snes9x save states don't work with the pc sne9x, no big deal but i doubt i will play those games over again to come to the current place i was at dingoo.

Now back to the ancient Samsung U3 mp3 player to listen to podcasts. I ordered that noname 4 inch screen PSP clone to watch divx shows (bigger screen, cheaper and "evener" than dingoo's regular cellphone screen put sideways) but i will probably miss the very superb cpu horsepower and programmability of the dingoo. I hope I don't.

On further though, I might order one again...

Someone asked about cellphone mascot type hole to tie your mascots: sorry there is no location on the dingoo case to tie a mascot.

Nope.
Best you could do is see if there's any holding cases, accessories.  But I don't think there's anything that would let you secure it around your wrist WHILE PLAYING THE GAME...and I think that is what you are after.

You could always try a little super glue and a rubber band, LOL.

No strap holes on the Dingoo whatsoever. Not even something you could jerry rig into one.

That sucks and I feel bad for you but surely this is a reason you bought a Dingoo. If it was a more expensive piece of kit then it'd be a lot harder to replace.

I didn't want to create a new thread.
So here goes my dingoo:
http://wstaw.org/images/free/2009/12/18/772b938e97cce6aedb344def613ac1.jpeg
An effect of hitting a PC case, and then falling on the floor.
And a funny thing is that except of a tiny bump, the screen protector is unscratched.

I hope I can get a new one, because it would be sad to end my dingoo-adventure like that.

Yeah, but dingux doesn't work with TV-out.
I'd buy a replacement screen, but I already have a problem with my prototype NanoNote being hold on customs for over a week now. Don't want to repeat that situation with another package from China ;)
I'll probably just look for a dingoo on the local ebay or something..

I believe you can order whole Dingoos from Dingoo-digital North America now...which means they ship from N. America and not China.

Still the same costs for shipment and customs.
I think I can order them from EU, that should eliminate the customs problem.

OK.  My bad.  Ugly American I am...I assume everyone is an American, LOL.
Did not know you were in Europe.

Sorry my suggestion was not helpful.  I do know that the guy at Dingoo-Digital North America, a fellow by the name of Justin...is very good to do business with, I ordered accessories from him some time back, and, while shipping was a bit slow, as he apparently is a one-man operation, his customer service is very good, he sent an email to let me know items were shipped - and I got exactly what I ordered.

Maybe it would be helpful if we had a list of reliable dealers/resellers on this forum somewhere...and where they ship from, so that people can eliminate shipping delays and customs charges - and choose from a number of reliable dealers.

@orlange you sure it was a coil? could have been the crystal someone else also ripped off (and identified as capacitor).

As for the wrist strap connection, I don't suppose it would be a big deal to superglue a little loop/bracket onto the case of the Dingoo... If you felt like defacing your Dingoo, that is.  I mean, it only needs to support the weight of the Dingoo itself, so I'd think superglue or epoxy would be enough.

Hello fellow dingoo users
Had mine for a couple of weeks, was thinking of modding a couple of bits so took the casing apart and when removing battery I too pulled off the gold coil (spring) and now just a white screen and xp wont recognise it,
please please please has anyone had any experience of this and remedys on how to fix
thanks in advance
