Relink/Adjust "Interesting Game" mountpoint
« on: November 16, 2009, 02:55:29 pm »
It would be great to be able to change the link behind "Interesting Game" towards a specific directory on the inserted SD-Card.
I have all my roms in /roms on my SD-Card. At the moment I have to press B multiple times in order to navigate to the folder on the SD card. If it would be possible to open a symbolic link that points to the SD Card would be highly beneficial.

Do you guys think that such a redirect is possible?

for example:

linking the menue entry of 3D Games from internal memory to SD_Card:/3D Games
linking the menue entry of interesting games from internal memory to SD-Card:/roms/

The path to the internal memory is A:\ where Interesting game then points to A:\GAME. I don't know what the SD card is mapped as, assuming it's B:\, maybe it's possible to simply change this in the binary firmware.

great point, highly appreciated. I would go for a test. If possible, this might be a feature for the custom firmware distributed via this excellent forum.  I bet that a lot of people actually have all their stuff consolidated in one nicely sorted folder on the SD-Card.

I can take a look when I get home.

I figure if the /SYSTEM/ directory can be moved to A:/SYSTEM/, it should be possible to relocate A:/GAME/, providing we know the device name for the SD card.

I think it might cause problems though for the "3D game" menu entry, and the location of the emulator.SIM files.

Well maybe a symbolic link/shortcut is the best way to go for it and could be seen as a trade-off if the device is "harcoded" into too many firmware entries.

If a mountpoint/shortcut-ish thing could be created a simple "SD-Card" shorctut placed inside A:/GAME forwarding to SD-CARD:/ would be the best and most compatible way to look at it. This would still allow the firmware to look for the .SIM files at the designated place

To get the path:
Simply place this on the SD card and run it. It will show the path it is in:
http://www.harteex.com/temp2/pathtest.app

(I don't have a Mini-SD card so I can't check)

Haven't got my Dingoo with me atm, but when I get back in about three hours I will be able to test the app, and see about editing the firmware

Pawed Dingoo, black.
Internal memory = a:\
MiniSD card = b:\

So yes, it's really called B:\ :)

Great news thanks joepie91 so Harteex has been right.
Does anybody know if the mountpoint thing could work?
a:/game/mini-sd > b:/

Based on my Dingoonity cfw, I'll add the download link the first post of that thread.

what happens when no sd is inserted? does it pop back to the 'root' and internal storage again?
Write/save problems? Segmentation faults? Black screens? Read the Troubleshooting and FAQ guide first to fix your issues! :)
SD Card readonly/corruption issues? Chkdisk /F and steer clear from DMenu: use GMenu instead!

Unfortunately it just goes "File not found!", and you can navigate to the internal, but as the emulators/apps are located on SD, it wouldn't be able to play any games!
