Dingoonity custom firmware 1.2
« on: November 08, 2009, 05:26:43 pm »
With some motivation from Codiak, I figured that after writing a guide about creating a custom firmware, I would actually release one for you fine folks to use.

Tested and working on my own white/pawed Dingoo with ILI9331 LCD module.

So here it is, the Dingoonity custom firmware 1.2a

Dingoonity firmware 1.2a for Dingoo-A320

Created by omgmog for Dingoonity.org

Changelog:
-------------------------------------------
15/november/2009 - Updated with new Strings courtesy of NinJato
08/november/2009 - First version released

About:
-------------------------------------------

This firmware is a modified version of the 1.2 firmware for the Dingoo.

It features fixed/corrected strings for the menu, and custom theme support.

Included is the "PSPingoo" theme from http://www.dingoo-digital.com/forums/theming/psdingoo-theme-v1-psp-xmb-theme-dingoo

Installation:
-------------------------------------------

1 - Copy the a320.hxf and the 'SYSTEM' directory to the root of your Dingoo's internal memory.

2 - Reboot the dingoo and hold down on the dpad while the Dingoo boots.

If you can't install using this method because the Dingoo says that you've already got this firmware version, you can use this guide to install using the Dingoo Firmware Flasher - http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingoo-hacks/guide-flashing-custom-firmwares-to-your-dingoo/

After installation of the firmware using the firmware flasher, the Dingoo might seem stuck on the "Dingoonity" splash screen. You should be able to access your Dingoo internal memory by USB, so you can put the 'SYSTEM' directory onto the internal memory.

Dingoonity custom firmware with /GAME/ directory relocated to memory card
After the suggestion by jweck I have created a second version of the Dingoonity custom firmware that has the /GAME/ directory moved to the memory card.

Nice, I love the bootscreen! :P
Though you fixed some of the typos, you didn't quite catch them all.
I fixed some of them myself and set the default language to english. There are 0 bytes free now xD. Omgomg, if you want to take a look contact me.

A list of suggested string changes would be great, I was a bit unsure for some of them :)

Instructions on how to install, please?

This won't like, screw up anything...and does it fix stupid menu choices like "Interesting Game?"

Do we do this the same way, just get this file, replace the HFX file, and then re-boot or what, here?

It won't screw up dual-boot Dingux, will it?

@ omgmog, have you changed the shutdown screen at all?

Its a shame there aint a screen changer prog like the native GBA emulator...

EDIT:Ok I see I can use a custom firmware and just patch the boot screens
Using Hxftool myself - then reflash the dingoo  ;)

You missed one. "Dark White" is supposed to be "Teal" or "Turquoise", because of what that option actually does in the book reader.

Don't worry. Just place it in the root of your Dingoo and boot w/ the down button pressed on the D-pad. Everything will work fine after that. :)
Finally got me a new Dingoo after I Kentucky ~~::fried::~~ the other one. Yippee! [edit] And lost it!

Personally I use Adobe Photoshop, but if you want a free alternative you could use Paint.NET or The Gimp.

I'm sure both of those alternatives will have an option for saving as 16bit bmp

Could you use the language strings from NinJato?
http://members.shaw.ca/jato/FullEnglishTranslations.txt

I tried adding them myself but I keep ending up with a Dingoo that hangs at the bootscreen.
So I'm running original 1.2 again.  :P

I am still puzzled about the very last entry "Pieces". Pieces of what? Do you think they mean "Parts"?
