Title: Project Ideas and Requests
Post by: Rebelphoenix on October 16, 2009, 01:58:19 pm
Do you have an idea for a game or application you would like to see on the Dingoo?

Maybe you want an emulator or game ported and have the source code but not the expertise necessary to port it?

In this thread you can post your ideas, and with any luck, some skilled Dingoo developers might see your idea and make it happen!

You should post your requests in the following way:

Developers are often busy with their own projects, and they develop for the Dingoo as a hobby. If nobody persues your request, don't be impatient, and don't bump or repeatedly post the same request.

I would love to see a clone of Tempest 2000. I say clone cuz the A320 will never get a Jaguar emuator at full speed.

It shouldnt be to hard to make a clone as its not a very complex game from what I can tell.

Maybe something likeTyphoon 2001  just with software renders instead of the opengl they are using

I'd love to see a TI-99/A4 emulator port.

Source code is available here:

I'd be in heaven if I could play Tombstone City: 21st Century on the Dingoo  ;D

A Neo-Geo Pocket Color Emulator. I know there's already one, but it's not very good, and doesn't run at full speed. One with full speed and save-states would be awesome.

Given the success of the PSX emulator, I don't think it's really so much out of the question to see if someone could port a Jaguar emulator to the platform.  Couldn't hurt to try :-)

Also, Intellivision would be awesome!

Not sure how difficult this might be but:

Is there a way to make an app that would list the most recently loaded files? Similar to the Windows Start bar "Recent Item" list.

I've got my ROM's pretty well organized by system and name, but it's still a ton of files to scroll through. I'd rather not have to  constantly reorganize them just to make finding recently played games easier...

Two votes for that!  Somehow, my post here got deleted...or it never showed up or something.

I want MAME for native OS...would be major-league coolness.  Nothing better than a retro-80's arcade in your pocket. ;D

Alekmaul has already ported the libraries for XM and MOD, so I don't think it would be hard for me to add support for those to GooPlayer (http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingoo-releases/gooplayer-(ogg-music-player)/) (which is only ogg right now).
Although I have much to do right now, so I don't know when I'll have time for it.

A good tool would be an equivalent to the dingux local pack. This would make it easy for someone to just grab all of the available homebrew. This is especially useful for those like me who have been almost exclusively following dingux homebrew and would like an easy way to get into this other side of dingoo homebrew. Thanks to anyone who considers this idea!

Title: Re: Project Ideas and Requests

I am affraid not.
The only two portable VB emulators require liballegro. And even with that, they would be really slow (at least basing on my experience with VB emulator for GP2X, which has similiar specs).
And the 3d glasses support requires the screen to be rendered twice - once in red, and once in blue. That would rise the hardware requirements even more.

Title: Guitar Tuner APP
Post by: janX on December 11, 2009, 11:45:14 pm
Guitar Tuner APP

Guitar Tuner utilizing the built-in mic.

Source Code: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/audio-video/FftGuitarTuner.aspx (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/audio-video/FftGuitarTuner.aspx)
This source code is just an example. I'm sure there are plenty of other codes that could be used. It's irrelevant what the programmer would prefer to use. Just as long as you can tune a guitar with it.

Features:
-----------
Keep it simple, guitar tuners don't need to be complex.
Dial that displays how close you are to actual note.
Ability to choose tuning other than just C. IE:#d

Bonus Feature Ideas:(which would otherwise be nice to seen in a separate APP if not in this one)
------------------------
Would be nice to have a cord finder or cord list.
Perhaps some guitar tab or guitar tab text reader.(that isn't affected by word wrapping)

OS:
----
Doesn't matter. Native or Dingux. Although Native would probably be easier to build, from a programming point of view.

P.S. This following tuner is not all that great, and doesn't utilize the built-in mic.
http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2009/10/guitar-tuner-for-dingux.html (http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2009/10/guitar-tuner-for-dingux.html)
Which is the purpose of this request.
Title: MEDIA PLAYER / KARAOKE PLAYER
Post by: janX on December 12, 2009, 12:10:33 am
Media Player / KARAOKE PLAYER APP

A Media player that can play .mp3+G, .mid and .kar files. While viewing the lyrics on screen.

Features:
Not worried about it. Just being able to view .mp3+G  (or .mid .kar) files would be good enough.
GUI would be a bonus, but not necessary. Simply to be able to browse folders is good enough for basic karaoke.

OS:
Doesn't matter Dingoo Native or Dingux.

Source Code:
Maybe one of these would help?

Post by: onthebridge on December 17, 2009, 06:15:34 pm
Hi all,

I wonder if it would be possible to see a Comic viewer application in our Dingoos native firmware, with its amazing TV out.

It would have to be able to read .cbz and .cbr files ir order to get the job done.

Since is possible this could be too difficult ... what about for Dingux? There are lots of programmes like the one i`m  talking for linux, so ... it is possible? I`d love to read comics or magazines on the go

Tell me guys, What do you think?

You can rename .cbz to .zip, then unpack and view the image files with the embedded viewer. I remember moths ago I also found a good homebrew jpg viewer for the native firmware, but don't remember where...

I have also ported an image viewer for dingux, but it's still in a very early stage (not to mention that i dicovered i started form bad written code) intending to transform in into a cbz viewer. In dingux you can have a good image viewer if you install dinguXMB (which IMHO also looks better than dmenu). Maybe I'll restart working on it as soon as I will be finished with porting GTK and fbreader (it could take a *not so short* while though...).

I have reall issues work comic viewers on handhelds - must be me ! The PSP  latest update adds a veiwer and I have tried it I seem to be always scrolling, zooming, unzooming etc, an A5 size touch tablet would be better for me...or a real comic

anyway, its a good idea - I just cant use it !

Don't know if this as been suggested before but a simple apps that would run in the system tray that would sync *.SAV files from the dingoo to the PC everytime its connected would rock. Its a pain doing it by manually and its even more of a pain to restart your games from scratch when something happends. I'm using linux so a nice python script would be awsome :P.

Something simple, setup just asking you to plug your dingoo and browse to the folders to scan something like that.
Title: NeoGeo Pocket Color
Post by: Sgt.Ghost on December 27, 2009, 02:46:21 am
What I would like to see is a nice NeoGeo Pocket emulator on Native OS. I have a hacked PSP and I use RACE! PSP to play NeoGeo Pocket, and I think it would be really cool if someone ports that to the Dingoo. I also know there is an emulator already out but its very slow, there is no sound, and it makes my Dingoo freeze after use. I just want to play a NeoGeo Pocket emulator that is close 60fps, with O.K. sound, and if it makes it easier you don't put in the extra stuff like rewind, and turbo.

Here a link to the source code to RACE! PSP:
http://svn.akop.org/psp/tags/race/

I don't know if makes a difference, but I also found a source code for a NeoGeo pocket emulator on P.C.:
http://neopop.emuxhaven.net/NeoPop-Src-Win32-1.06b.zip

P.S. Please don't flame me if its impossible to port this emulator to Dingoo. I don't really know much about C coding. I've been only learning/studying it for 2 months, and I still cant do much.

I will perhaps release it (of course with source code) to know if someone can help me to improve it.

I would like to see a falling sand game like the various ones for flash/java

I'd make it... if I only knew how to. I haven't been able to make a decent one for the PC using languages other than Java or C++... the problem for me was the rendering. It took so much work to draw and calculate so many independent pixels...

Anyway, it might be a better idea to make one like this: www.enigmasand.com
It's a little less complicated to render.

I have a couple requests, seem that maybe Alekmaul might be the right guy for the job....would love to see, preferably native...apps or games to emulate "Bejeweled 2" and "Peggle Deluxe"

Bejeweled clones can be found out there, of course, but I would like something far closer to the original, and Alek's the sort of guy who could do it!!

As to Peggle...never seen a Peggle clone out there yet, but would love to.

It's okay if they need to be Dingux, too, but just would prefer Native so that more people may enjoy them, since not all of us run Dingux.

soo an app for hiding your porn then?  just don't let people use your dingoo, or remove the sd card when they do :P

though it shouldn't be too hard, copying large amounts of data is a risky business though (in dingux at least)

A gameshark for the native OS would be freaking awesome!

Also, the GNUboy doesn't allow for custom frameskip (for example if I want to make the game go faster such as a Pokemon game, there's no way I can do it with GNUboy... with the GBA emulator I just set the frameskip to 8 and turn off sound) and custom key mapping.

Wishful thinking list of games I would love to play on the Dingoo (or its replacement):

A handful of games in these two lists can be ported to the Dingoo...
http://www.linuxlinks.com/article/20080510052539217/Games.html
http://www.linuxlinks.com/article/20080522164112313/Games-Part2.html

Three more games not on these lists...

Aleph One
- Open source Marathon engine
- http://source.bungie.org/index.php/Main_Page

LinCity-NG
- Open source SimCity clone
- http://lincity-ng.berlios.de/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Tux Racer
- Open source 3D downhill racer
- http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/

For OpenGL games, maybe someone adventurous enough can leverage flatmush's Native Dingoo 3D Graphics Library:
http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/topic/52340-c99-native-dingoo-3d-graphics-library/

I know some games will be just too taxing for the Dingoo hardware, or the text would be too small to read on the 2.8" screen, but hey it's worth a try (hence "wishful thinking" ^^).

To play even more games (and videos), I hope someone can port over either of these Flash players to the Dingoo:
http://gnashdev.org/
http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/wiki/

Gnash is apparently the better player, but they should both be superior to the built-in Flash player, which is pretty useless IMHO.

Let me help you cross a couple of them out :P
* Abuse requires a mouse (or touchscreen)
* Albion uses a static recompilation for arm asm, impossible to port
* Alex the Allegator uses Allegro. Won't happen until we port that lib first.
* Biohazard2 doesn't seem to be opensource
* Cave Story won't happen, as Pixel is not interested in new ports of his game (probably related with the WiiWare port)
* Egoboo uses opengl
* I think Enigma uses the hardware scaler, which we don't have in the Dingoo
* Nebulus uses the hardware scaler
* Paper Plane is written in GLBasic, there's no GLBasic compiler available for Dingoo
* Pulplife is a Fenix game, not sure of the Fenix status on the Dingoo
* ScorchedGP is a Fenix game
* Sponge Blob Tennis is not opensource
* Zelda Classic uses Allegro

Name: Advanced Brightness App (or whatever you decide to call it)

Description: A simple app that would allow more control over display brightness on native firmware, so that you can set brightness to even lower values than what native firmware allows. Kind of like what you can set it to on Dingux.
Me, and probably some others use their Dingoos at night in the dark, so on native firmware even with brightness set to lowest it's still too bright. By making this app you'll be saving many people's eyesight, so... please? :3

So i wonder why nobody has ported it - can't be THAT hard, because it has already been ported for the WIZ.

Emulator-wise i'd love to see a VECTREX Emulator and a LYNX for DINGUX.

I have a psp (that broke about 3 years ago :'( ) and i loved having all the emus on it and stuff, but the one game I played 99% of the time was this game called psp-revolution, it wasn't an exact port (i dont think) but it WAS compatible with stepmania (and ITG) files. which meant I could take songs from say ddruk.com and play them on my psp!

I realise beat2x exists, and it is amazing and the developer deserves a pat on the back for it for sure, but the problem is that beat2x is more like inspired by stepmania instead of a port.

I got my dingoo a few days ago and I LOVE it but im always thinking ah how great would it be to play DDR on this thing just like psp? Having a stepmania clone/port on my dingoo would be the most amazing thing ever, I swear it would complete that little thing for me!!!

apoc, i've tried to port stepmania, it's not worth it, just deal with beat2x as the best you'll get on the dingoo (though the abxy buttons need remapping properly so you can play with 2 sets of arrows etc, on my todo list sometime)

(oh and apoc, ddruk hasn't had the stepfile packs for a while now, due to money/server issues or something  :P)

Aw man that sucks! Well at least I can rest easy knowing someone at least tried.

also I havent been to ddruk there in a long time (since my psp broke hah) sorry about that (i tried bemanistyle AND flash flash revolution and both down! wierd)

Maybe beat2x will eventually support stepmania files anyways, it would be just as good (and pretty similar to psp-revolution in the way it works)

how about making a frontend for dingux that uses the virtual mouse and acts like a desktop
like, having a toolbar for apps or file exploring and a media player to go with it
something that looks like (i don't know) windows xp or linux mint
just shootin' in the dark

I'm sure porting some basic window manager and x11 isn't too hard, but the dingoo is a resource constrained system with no mouse or touchscreen, a conventional windowing system would be beyond useless.

First HI to everyone!
I'm new around! Still when i saw this article I couldn't hold myself of putting one request!
Someone remember that old game "Heart Of Darkness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_of_Darkness_%28video_game%29)"... was good one!
The game itself is not open source, still I found something pretty interesting!
Check it out.

Introduction
HODe is a rewrite of the engine used in the game Heart Of Darkness made by Amazing Studio. This program is designed as a cross-platform replacement for the original executable and uses the SDL library.

The original game requirements that i found!

Master Boy can be ported, is based on MIPS architecture. Source code available:

A lot of PSP software is a nightmare to port, typically they are NOT SDL based.

GameBoy, Master System,  Game Gear can be emulated at full speed with C code so if MasterBoy has MIPS asm, it probably won't make that much difference.

Asm could make a difference for more difficult to emulate consoles like GameBoy Color, SNES, etc. OhBoy needs overclock for some GBC games (not all).

However the accurate emulation that HeigBoy has may be in MasterBoy which could be handy for audio.

If you are in contact with Notaz, you could ask him for the latest source code for Pico Drive. The upstream version of Pico Drive is ahead of the Dingux version. It would be useful to have that for both Dingux and Native,

I thought the source code is out there on open handheld, but I had no luck compiling it. The Dingux version is somewhat outdated, but the biggest problem is lack of track playback in SegaCD emulation. Now it simply doesn't work and apparently mp3 tracks are not the best idea. I was wondering if those could be replaced with wav tracks.

After seeing the new LCD for the Dingoo here (http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingoo-hardware-general/dingoo-a320-with-new-lcd-type-%28ili9338%29/msg30286/#msg30286), I thought it might be a good idea for someone to make a program to adjust brightness, contrast and gamma.

I don't know how possible it is, but it could help people buying the new ones.

Request:

PDF Reader on Dingoo Official Firmware

Source and Code: Why not port the open-source Sumatra PDF? (http://code.google.com/p/sumatrapdf/)

I know it's an oldie but how about Doom for native firmware?

I did a search and couldn't find anything, surprising as i thought it would have been mentioned before. Would there be any complications in a native port?

Hi all,
I created a small tetris-like game for the official OS: sometris. I've tested it on A320.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaPgNQHv3Q8
More info here: http://dev.ivanov.eu/index.php?page=game-for-dingoo-a320 (http://dev.ivanov.eu/index.php?page=game-for-dingoo-a320)
I'll try to improve this one and develop more puzzle games (ideas welcomed)...

Happy new year!
Regards,
Peter

Well, I haven't started to take process in my project. Actually, a Platformer/Fighting-Adventure based-on our favorite fighting game and RPG. This was the only idea I have for now.

But, I wish to see some latest game for native OS.

Fun game, but it seems more columns-like than tetris-like.  8)
