REQUEST: C64 emu for native
« on: February 15, 2011, 10:20:52 am »
This is an official request for a C64 emulator for native.

Would be happy to donate via PayPal and try and conjure donations from others if it would help.

Reesy, clach04, alekmaul, Bueller...Bueller...Bueller, any takers? Anyone up for it?

This is not an offer to work on this just some random observations :)

The vice build system is rather large/complex so that needs some work before that could be done on native (autoconf tends to be difficult for native). vice would almost certainly need overclocking to be usable.

Frodo maybe possible but as there is already a Dingux port, it seems silly working on a new GUI for native. If anyone could get hold of the source for the dingux version of Frodo that should make the task easier (assuming the dingux port use SDL). I've not seen the (dingux) source code anywhere for Frodo (VICEs dingux code is built in to headrevs of VICE). There is a new (SDL gui) version of Frodo supposed to be in the works but I don't think that is ready yet.

Yeah, I'm thinking that Frodo would be the best option. It's not the best C64 emu though, and it tends to have glitchy sound, but it's good enough.

It is probably worth explicitly asking;

Does anyone know where the Dingux Frodo source code is? The Dingux version is definitely a modified version of Frodo v4 from http://frodo.cebix.net/
