Having trouble running pokemon games
« on: May 03, 2011, 02:58:12 am »
So I'm having trouble getting official pokemon GBA games to run. I can get hacks like blue sea to run, but not Fire Red or Leaf Green. I load the rom and it goes to a white screen, what some call the WSOD. I have the latest firmware that I know of, and I can get most, if not all other games to play with no problems.

I heard that you can upgrade your gba.sim and it might help, but I have no idea how to do that. Also if I needed to upgrade my firmware would that help?

Thanks.

Been talked about before on here (forum search function is useful). There may be something wrong with your roms. Have you tried getting those pokemon roms from a few different sources?

In order to run those roms you should patch them using gbata.

I don't remember what exactly is to patch but a google search will certainly show you.

A google search turned up little. But I have figured out how to use it. The only question I have now is does this work with Kingdom Hearts?

To get Kingdom Hearts to work you need to use a .sav file that is past the intro sequence, because the intro causes it to freeze. I believe someone posted a couple .sav files on here for that purpose. Use the forum search.

Thanks Michunio, worked fine.

Thanks. Is there a Japanese save file? Just wondering.

Also the output for the pokemon games didn't work. Does anyone know the offset I need to input to get around the opening title?

ok so it's been a while and I still can't find which header I need to start from to remove the intro. I've tried the draw and remove options and neither seem to work.

Just pick a sav file already, or create your own save.

I already have a save file. I finally got most of the roms to work. Pokemon Sapphire (U) doesn't work, and it's the only one that doesn't. And what does a save file have to do with getting a rom to run?

Most GBA games have a menu with a "New Game" and a "Load Game".
Sooo, having a save, you wouldn't have to watch the intro on the new game thing.

That works with Kingdom Hearts, it might work with pokemon, of course. Im not a fan, so i never played any f the pokemon series.

Simple... your game is freezing on the intro, right? So, you put it in a pc emulator (like VBA), let the intro runs, and save the game on the first oportunity, so you got a save file AFTER the introduction, your game don't freezes anymore and you'll be happy for all your life playing your game *like a boss*.

Any question?  :P
