GBA native emulator with low fps on "ported" games?
« on: July 29, 2013, 01:41:14 pm »
Hello to all,

I have a Dingoo A320 with 1.2 firmware version, that I bought from
a local vendor (Dynacom Brazil) so, I'm not sure if the firmware can
be a problem to the GBA emulator.

I've noticed that all "ported" GBA games that I try to run on the native
emulator tends to have their FPS lowered no matter the emulator configuration I use.

For instance, if I run Riviera - which in my opinion is a pretty heavy
game - the native GBA emulator runs satisfatory and without problems,
and I don't need to change anything to the standard emulator configuration.
As you probably aware, this is a GBA game, not a port. The FPS is good, as so
for the game speed and sound as well. Same goes for other games as
Mario and DK, Minish Cap and Final Fantasy Tactics 2.

But, if I try to run Final Fantasy 6, Sonic, Final Fantasy 5, or any other
game that is a "port" from another console, the FPS decreases and
the sound runs a little bit desynchronized. For someone who isn't
perfeccionist, maybe this won't be a problem, but for me it is - at the
point of the game not being playable.

I've searched for another GBA emulator, but couldn't find any... Seems
like the only option is the native one, which I don't know if there are
different versions than the one I'm using.

Have you guys noticed this? Not sure if it's clear, any help would be
appreciated.

Many thanks,
Bispo.

Do you try gpSP for Dingux?

Thanks for the reply. I'll test it and let you know, I need to reinstall my dingux.

Just wondering if this would help the native emulator: http://boards.dingoonity.org/dingoo-releases/new-improved-overclocker-application/

I think that it's only a coincidence that the "ports" run slow (there are probably a lot of non-ports that run slow too) , for the real GBA and for any emulator any game is a GBA game. Maybe the ports where made with less optimizations for the GBA and it affects emulation speed since the emulator has an overhead for every "real" GBA operation it has to emulate.

The native emulator and the gpSP for OpenDingux are both ports of the original gpSP, but may perform different as they're running on different OS. You can't find any other emulator for the GBA on the Dingoo, gpSP is the only one fast enough to work and has known issues.

The overclock application will probably help, yes, in OpenDingux the overclocking is part of the OS and it makes a real difference in Wario Land 4 for example. But remember that the Dingoo hardware is not fast enough to get full speed GBA emulation, so don't expect miracles from it.
