it's been posted on ubuntu's website that high-end android devices would be able to run ubuntu, but what do you guys think about having a full linux OS on your phone/android device ?

Just gonna quote myself because I'm really interested in this!

Here is a video of the yinlips g16 running ubuntu on the internal LCD screen

Nice, I was thinking about doing this with a small linux distribution I'd imagine you would get better performance in emulation overall as even if an emulator is mostly written in C/C++ with the Android NDK you still have to deal Dalvik/Java interop and android event handling seems to be inefficient (even with the improvements Google made in Android 2.3), especially with touch-screen input. I have a HTC Wildfire phone and emulatiors like for the mega-drive and SNES they run great but as soon as I touch the screen it kills the performance.

We would also have a lot more options on the emulators front.

I have some questions about this, are there kernel modules for the GPU? does Ubuntu recognize the d-pad and buttons? does Ubuntu have any kind support for touch-screen interface?

i believe that an arm compiled ubuntu userbase is running atop the yinlips android kernel, so yes there should be gpu modules

Nah this isn't a Linux distru on Android through VNC, this is running Linux natively on the device from an SD-card, check k0en's link (where I quoted myself from).

Also I just found these links:

Looks very interesting to say the least! Maybe a lighter distribution like Ångström could run smoother and better? If I'm not mistaken, the OS of the OpenPandora is based on that distribution.

The distro of the openpandora booting directly into minimenu would be great!

Any chance of getting Ubuntu's Utouch for touch-screen support to work on this? here is instructions for setting it up.

Hehe thanks for making a thread for it ....i'm the one having posted the video ;)

If I can access the tty, i'll try to enable the touchscreen ....but for the moment it hangs as soon as I try to execute something when I run it on the lcd screen ...

I don't known much about all this ... so if anyone wants to try, i'll be glad :)

Edit : after rebooting quite sometimes with unity2D, I manage to access the tty and with
depmod -a (then reboot)
followed by
sudo groupadd -g 3003 aid_inet
sudo usermod -a -G aid_inet ubuntu

I managed to connect to my wifi ....but can't access anything yet ..
