Just watched Taki's video of the Android device Super Retro Handheld. Looks promising.

Yeah, I'm not trusting this unless there's an option for a clean Android firmware.

Apparently, the device in its current state was not meant to be shipped to Youtubers, according to Taki Udon in his latest video of this device.

He has also added a few comments which sort of make it difficult to guess what the final version will look like:

Quote
- the d pad isn't final
- the buttons are trying to mirror an arcade board
- the name isn't final
- the software and how this system will ship isn't final
- you will have the ability to buy this device unlocked with stock Android 8
- prices aren't final and I would never call something "budget" that sells for over $100. In this space, budget is $0-$80.

It is also mentioned the final device will be available within a month. I'm really interested to see where this is going.

It's showing up on AliExpress now:

There still seems to be some dispute over whether this is the "final" product, or something that was just rushed into production for one client before the proper version is ready, but... it's there.

Thanks for the heads-up, taizou. If memory serves, I believe Taki hinted that the final version would have added L1 R1 buttons. The device shown on aliexpress doesn't seem to have any. Probably it's best to wait and see whether this is actually the final version or not. Taki said this device will be available within three weeks just three days ago so not sure what to think of this.

Powkiddy A19 was still a development version. It's new release is called the Retroid Pocket and based on Taki Udon's review, I have ordered one. Links to buy are in the YouTube video here:
