Huh, so you ended up being the one to buy that one huh?

Edit: No wait, is this a different prototype than the one on eBay? The screen looks to be bigger than 5"

@Elronza Williams Jr. has purchased  an nVidia Shield portable 2....the final and or 2nd prototype of the nVIDIA Shield portable 2 with a 5.5 inch screen.

The same one shown linked below.

Sony you are 100% correct, and thank you. AVahne the Shield Portable prototype you saw on Ebay was owned formerly by the guy in this video(link below), and had a Tegra K1 inside. Unlike mine that has a Tegra X1. Not to mention his never worked correctly and didn't have the Google-Play store, which mine pictured clearly has.

It looks pretty sweet.  Is it heavy to play with?  Does it connect to Gamestream?

Did he have a video of it? The one I saw had physical buttons instead of capacitive buttons.
Still, you got yourself an amazing find! I would wish that more prototype units get discovered, so that I may get another chance at them lol
It'd be easier if Nvidia would just release a new Shield instead though........

It has arrived. I have it here now charging. I'll run tests and post the results later. Then I'll test different emulators and it's overall android ease of use and performance and any issues. I'm not stating the price as most would say why didn't you buy a Nintendo Switch and a ton of games lol.

But why didn't you just buy a...

Nintendo Switch and a tonne of games  :P

Lol didn't buy a Switch because I don't like it's controller layout and the fact it doesn't use Android. Although Monster Hunter and Smash do have me with some interest.

I have a Swiitch and barely ever touch it. Playing around with a Shield X1 prototype would be more fun.

Bad news. While I've gotten the device fully charged it has a pin code on it which the seller never informed me of, add to this the seller is ignoring my messages and I believe this device is stolen! Man talk about pissed. I've started a PayPal claim against the seller.

Have you tried to see if you can get into the recovery and do a factory reset?

Don't know how? It isn't like the normal Shield Portable and has more in common with Shield Tv.

Not going to waste my time playing with it. I bought what was supposed to be a 100% working prototype not a passcode protected highly likely stolen device I can't use. I want my refund and no parts of this thing.

I had reset a locked phone that I got for my father-in-law and since he didn't get it switched at MetroPCS, he gave it to my daughter when hers broke.  Google tied the device to his account since he logged in, so even though I reset the device and was able to start the setup, Google had it locked to his account and I wasn't able to log into the thing to do the initial setup.

Mate, you get a refund from eBay or PayPal yet?

Good evening Sony bro. Unfortunately the slime-ball who sold me this messed up Shield Portable 2 is trying to fight with me with PayPal saying he wants to keep half of what I paid him and I keep this broken Shield and get only half of my money back, to which I said no. So PayPal gave him till Monday the 23rd my Birth-Day to respond. And LordDavon sorry to hear of you having to endure a similar situation with passcodes.

I'm sure PayPal will make sure the outcome is in your favour because the seller is a pure scumbag and scammer.
Anyway, just in case I forget... advance Happy Birthday for Monday, the 23rd of July :)

Worst case, if you don't get a refund you could try to brute force it.
But yeah even if you do manage to brute force it then it's likely that it is stolen... (or do the recovery mode trick as recommended before)
It will be interesting to see what happens next. (although sadly, at the expense of your bank account)

Good luck, it's a shame because it still seems like a nice device.
(i personally don't use google play, i just grab my apps with Yalp Store)

Thank you my friend.

It's LD's birthday today?

It is July 21st.  Turned a young 47.  :-)

It was a pretty good birthday.  My wife made me a nice cake.  My baby boy made me a nice little card, with all the art a 2 year old can do.  My 12 year old daughter got me a farting card.  My 18 year old daughter told me that she is moving out near campus, which I am not very happy about.  I got a new game controller for my PC (Xbox Elite), an electric smoker cabinet (I'm an ameture chef in my spare time so I love anything for cooking), and a new 4K TV for the bedroom (Vizio P55-F1).

Glad you enjoyed your Birthday LordDavon. Well I got my money refunded. This thing is completely messed up as the buttons/touch pads don't work. I'm shipping it back to the seller now.

Excellent news!  Sorry about not having the new toy though.  Oh, and Happy Belated Birthday!  I need to have you and the wife up soon.  I'm sure our wives will get along while we geek.  :-)

For sure LordDavon we have to get our families together one day soon.  And AVahne for sure scammers are the worse. The scammer that got me didn't even respond to PayPal, after I and PayPal repeatedly messaged him. So PayPal ruled in my favor and closed the case. I got my money refunded and I still have the prototype shield x1 portable.

Hey heads up to you all... None... I mean NONE of the X1 prototypes work properly... NEVER BUY THEM... After sometime the power and voltage will really take a toll... The X1 was never meant to be that cramped for air and temp control... The K1 models strangely enough DO work without any power/heat issues. The X1 units have the speakers lose juice/crackle, and sometimes the game controller/system hardware will shut off randomly and need a hard reset. Bottom line... The X1 units were dreams and concepts... Never really developed on much. The older LOKI with the K1 chips must have had MUCH more debugging and designing done for it. The K1 unit I have has tons of apps meant to test/crash/force system performance problems and correct them.

*GOOGLEPLAY Store is not supported... This device is not known nor has any ID for the store. Just use another alternate STORE apk and sideload. The debug commands are nice and the ADB support is good on this. I just used the generic GOOGLE USB driver and it worked. You can tell that LOKI is not playing too nice though. I can send commands to the deivce and reboot it with the command ABD shell, it just loads no bootloader. It does not have one. Somehow there is a STOCK ROM on the recovery partition. Factory reset works and I have done it a few times.

Keep your eyes peeled for the K1 units... So please... DO NOT SEEK THE X1 models... Even if you find one that works to an extent... The design was NEVER perfected and the voltage and power draw is just too much and will eventually kill the hardware... The cracked tablets and Nintendo Switches PROVE they cannot handle the X1's temp and power needs. The Shield TV Box CAN because of design and fan speed.

I also find that these prototypes are locked and not always usable. Devkit Keygen encryption etc. SO BEWARE...

I took a gamble for $170 and assumed that the later LOKI prototype with same 5" 720p LCD+ scaling chip / SAME as normal Tegra 4 portable would be way more developed... I was right. Seems that the only difference is the Android version and the SOC drivers for the K1 chip. One annoying thing I will say about the K1 protos is this... They are called LOKI Diagnostics in their model name and as such the device is not MADE for gaming rather for testing hardware and thermal limits. The SOC/CPU has 4 cores... Yet, 3 of them are LOCKED and turned OFF... I gained ROOT and got them firing up so it is possible to get them back! Just a FYI.

The only issue I have the with K1 model is the GPU drivers are older and the OpenGL support in the older Devkit ROM is not updated with optimizations. I hope to make my own ROM or get some help to modify the DUMPed ROM of the stock Devkit ROM. I also am surprised that the factory reset did not brick my unit... My K1 has no bootloader, it boots to a blank screen when using ADB bootloader reboot commands, so that is odd...

The K1 prototype I have never gets hot and the fan never kicks on. I did have it kick on when the 4 cores were running at full 2.3Ghz though. The fan did come on and once it hits the MAX 90C Temp/junction it shuts down. I do not think pushing it is good. Good luck finding one guys! Rooting was easy with Towelroot and SuperSU all works perfect.

In a nutshell...

LOOK for the K1 model with a 5" 720p screen LOKI Diagnostics model from 2014-2015. I have one and it has almost everything working. If you need help with it guys here is my post to assistance. Good luck!

This is the only prototype I have seen that has ZERO hardware power failures, no crashes and works about perfect minus the need for a custom ROM with updated GPU sources. The factory reset even works and has the ROM somewhere on a hidden recovery partition.

No Playstore, but not a big deal. The device is unknown and that makes sense.  The main issue is you need to enable the 3 CPU cores that come turned off... You can gain ROOT though and get the cores back thanks to Towelroot and SuperSU.

I bought what was supposed to be a 100% working prototype not a passcode protected highly likely stolen device I can't use.

It is never that simple. I think my prototype is the most developed of them all and it still had 3 CPU cores locked. I had to install the SDK tools and do ADB commands to fix it + install CPU core/park tools to kick the cores on manually. I had to ROOT it too. THAT was not as hard as I figured thank God...

It also needs some driver source code/binaries updates made into a new ROM for full functionality... Prototypes are just that... Unfinished... Never forget that.

Learned my lesson no more prototypes for me ever again! I'm just glad I was able to get my money back. Funny enough the shield prototype was lent to a friend to play with trying at fixing who now has said shield prototype. I say good riddance to it. I hate scams and phony people.

Is your friend's name Jeremy Calhoun? Is he the one you gave the broken unit to?
