Here's Madden 2002 widescreen, with some glitching during the start of a play. The missing data becomes visible as soon as the ball is snapped and there is camera movement, making me wonder if widescreen simply renders the data cache. Which I believe is sort of what you wrote, Skelton (thank you, BTW). Being mostly a layman, I can't be sure, but I assume data is cached to speed rendering (or rendered "off screen" for discovery as the camera moves).
The Madden is a totally different experience, as well, played in widescreen mode. Obviously, PS3 and 4 owners are used to widescreen games, but when you see a game you are totally used to being the old standard 4:3 ratio suddenly opened up, it's like watching an old "pan and scan" VHS copy of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, then watching the widescreen digital copy on your HD TV...
Well, I'm done. I'm supposed to be working, not firing up PSone games in widescreen...
