i took some photos of the inside: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oohshiny/7689092994/in/set-72157630848765622/

FYI this uses the exact same LCD part as the YDPG18 series. It just has a better backlight driver. Visibly, it's comparable to my YDPG18A with the backlight resistor mod.

I think this is a much higher quality build, but I wish there was room for a bigger battery and some mods :)

Better backlight, dpad, independent analogs. This thing is just one tiny flaw away from being the ultimate emulation machine.

I'm confident you can patch the controls, furan.

Just waiting on qbert to test.

FWIW, the yinlips has an independent analog stick, the driver just sends the same input as the d-pad. I am working on a new driver that separates the input from the d-pad.

So between that driver and modding the backlight driver on the board, the yinlips devices aren't so bad.

so did anyone ever confirm if it ships with a working google play?
I get 'error retrieving information from server' when attempting to install previously purchased software.

Maybe you can try the typical fixes for allwinner devices. Adding the xml files to system etc/permissions and changing device id/fingerprint in build.prop.

Didn't qbertaddict say that the GCW wouldn't have true, true analog, but would not be mapped to the d-pad?

Unless someone finally hacks the Vita, I think this is as good as its gonna get.

You might be right, in fact, I think he said that in response to my own question posted on one of his youtube videos. I still hold out hope because the pics of the hardware shows that it seems to have the same analog nub as the JXD/Yinlips devices and those are said to be the ones with good hardware for analog, but bad software for analog. When I first heard about the analog hardware vs. software rumor, I kept asking them if that's going to affect the design of the Zero but I never got any response. I felt the possibility of a theoretical firmware & emulator update giving the current JXD/Yinlips devices true analog would pressure GCW into beating them to the market on that while they still can.

With the Zero being open-source, i hope it will either ship with working true analog or one of the programming gurus here will solve the puzzle.

Im with you on this one!  Since the Zero IS open source, I believe most devs will focus more on it.  If thats the case, then even if Zero doesnt ship with true analog software, someone will crack it!  The Dingoo a320/a330s built the foundation with Dingux and Open Dingux.  Theyve shown what they can do and how well they run with limited hardware.  Now its Zero's turn to build on the already established platform that is Dingux/OD.  With Zero's better specs, the possibilities for these units are incredible.

The only other unit that has caught my eye, is the X360.  My bet is still on the Zero, but for Android, this one seems to be the best option.

Getting excited now.  Glad to hear the controls sounds like a software issue.  Mine should be arriving any day now and I'll be more than happy to do an honest third party review for those concerned. I will defiantly take a look at your patch furan as well.  One thing perhaps yourself or qbert can clear up for me:  Is the firmware that Willgoo uploaded for us identical to the stock firmware that it ships with? Or is it some kind of improvement/different version?

EDIT:  Furan, one more thing.  I cant quite tell from your photos how thick the battery is.  Any chance of getting something like a galaxy tab battery in there? (about 4mm thick):

Installed the patch and I still have the same issue. Maybe it needs to be tweaked a little more. I hope this is a software issue because this device would be awesome. I also notice that when i press a certain combination of keys they keyboard shows up so that is another issue we need to get fixed if possible

Although GCW runs on Linux, which could open up the possibilities of software, the dodgy answer their website gives concerning a capactitive touch screen makes me think the screen is resistive. That would be a serious deal breaker.

1. Will you get a better resolution screen such as 640x480 or 800x600? We would love to do this and make it OLED instead of LCD and we are trying to source them but so far the price has been prohibitive.

2. Will you get a capactitive touch screen? Pretty much same answer as above...

There is no touch screen on the GCW

You're definitely seeing the same issue I was seeing. After I made the patch I noticed my button presses got picked up a little better (you should notice button pressed missed right after pressing a button is registered). I'll try and tweak this more today and see if I can make it better.

You rebooted of course after writing the .ko to /vendor/modules, right?

Thanks for making this video. I think it prevented a bunch of unhappy people from rushing out and buying this. I hope this separate analog and digital is something we are going to see from Yinlips and JXD now.
