Looks like it's RK3188/2GB/1280*800/Android 4.2, again.
Design is more inspiring and friendlier than first incarnation.
Price is confusing, though: if $170 is wholesale price, how much it will cost in retail then?

Looks like they made some better choices in terms of controls and layout, proper L2 & R2 and what looks like a decent Dpad, looks like better analog sliders too.
Handhelds:
GPD Win, GPD XD 64gb, PlayGo, RS-90, 3DS XL, DSi XL, GBA SP, GBBC Clone, Gameboy Pocket c/w screen mod, PSP Go
PC:
ASUS TUF, Medion Erazer, Toshiba Z20t, Dell Mini 9, Psion 5MX, Toshiba 3480ct
Tons of other old laptops and tablets.....

Interesting.....  If this gets good reviews I'd be more inclined to buy one from Argos than importing a JXD 7800. It's still a bit of an odd shape, but the controls certainly look better than the previous model.

the problem of Archos is the lack of support. In the previous model they haven't released a firm since december 2012, and the kernel sources they distributed are incomplete. Unless they change this, I won't get an Archos again.

Agreed with skelton, no support at all !!
Crappy battery life, mine lasts barely an hour the bad days and up to 3 hours if i'm lucky.
Sometimes it doesn't turn on...

For the new model, good point for the trigger and the D-pad (if it's not some noisy buttons...) but still too thin you will get cramps within an hour or less !

In fact, I think D-pad is not that great. I remember few gamepads with similar D-pad, and from my experience, this shape is perfect in giving your thumb a quick corn.

Perhaps I'll stick with the JXD after all, then!  I'll reserve judgement until I've read a few reviews of both devices.

Agree with criticism of the original Archos. Battery was worst part of it, lucky to get 2 hours out of it on a good day and the buttons were terrible. Huge travel on them and they were very spongy. Archos are famous for lack of support. They roll out one maybe two updates and then announce a new wave of machines. If you look at their back catelogue of tablets it's a nightmare trying to work out what generation each machine came from and got even worse when they launched the arnova brand.
Still all that said I like the look of the sticks on this new gamepad. I might bite if it's around the same price as the original but I have a JXD S7800 on pre order and they look too similar to make it worth owning both, despite me being a handheld collector :)

Looks really nice, I must admit.

too bad the dpad will be bad =^/

that person being interviewed about the device looks like one of the sick people from Syphon Filter 2 , the interviewer should have made him run the Archos 2 emulator for playstation1 syphon filter 2 and ask "is this you ? "
i'm cheating on my PSPs

Oh dear! Hope he doesn't read this........

Not much of an incentive putting Asphalt 8 (a 69p game) and MC4 (frequently on sale for 69p) on there, still the price isn't too bad. ?152 is still a fair bit more than ?106 for the S7300 though, I think they will have to get everything right this time for it to be worth it.

This looks really tempting, but since it doesn't have a phone, I might end up losing intrest in a month after i burn through all of my emulators. The Much I5 seems like a better choice for me, but the 1gb of ram and A7 processor doesn't seem future proof.

Archos now has an official page up where you can download full-rez pics:
http://www.archos.com/products/themed/gamepad2/

Here are all the enhancements I could find around the internet:

  • Better screen: upgraded to IPS display
  • Higher screen resolution: 1024x600 -> 1280x800
  • More powerful CPU: dual-core -> quad-core (28nm)
  • Bigger battery: 50% larger battery
  • Increased RAM: 1GB -> 2GB
  • Improved D-pad: two-piece assembly -> one-piece rocker
  • Improved analog sticks: higher precision, more ergonomic concave surface
  • Improved L2/R2 location: moved next to L1/R1 instead of below D-pad and ABXY
  • Improved buttons: "vastly improved button click-feeling"
  • Newer version of Android: 4.1 -> 4.2 with no skins/overlays
  • Updated version of Game Mapping Tool
  • Added Wireless Display technology to mirror game on your TV
  • New model introduced with more internal memory: 8GB -> 16GB

So basically, they improved everything :-). Let's just hope the sum is greater than the individual parts.

The frame rate in Asphalt 8 is not too impressive. My 5110B runs it practically the same with a much inferior hardware :S
