Interesting review, thanks.  :)

Designwise it reminds me a lot of the JXD 100: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/JXD-100-2-8-in-Children-Portable-Game-Player-Yellow-or-Black-Random-Color/2016994229.html.  I wonder how they compare.

Does it let you play ROMs from the SD card at least? And (serious question) could I use it as an mp3 player?

Also the OS is a better on the one in the link above I think.  I have that firmware(Xiaobawang s200 OS) on a PSP clone and it sucks bad!

And just one more thing on this type of game console. I think that the JXD 100 is the best! I have a JXD 300 and the OS and firmware seem more stable and the GBA games run a lot smoother!

You can buy the JXD 100 on the JXD store!

@ Losk

Thanks! Yeah, I've known about the JXD 100 for a while and I've thought about buying one to compare the two, but the JXD 100 has been reviewed to death so I'd rather focus on getting my hands on more obscure stuff. Speaking of which, there's a Russian unit called the PGP AIO that looks like an interesting competitor but I can't find anyone selling one. If anyone has any ideas on how to get one, please let me know and I might review it!

@ lordhardware

Now I'm wishing I had tested ROMs in the video. I got an SD card with roms and it does recognize there's an SD card in there because a little notice popped up. But no matter which folder I went into, it kept telling me "No Files Found." Even stranger, when I connected the device to my computer and searched its files, I went through every folder and couldn't find its own ROMs anywhere.

It does play music files, I just didn't play music in the video because, again, I don't want the YouTube copyright bots to take down my video. But back to your question- can you use it as an MP3 player? Well, answer this question first: how many times do you adjust the volume while using your MP3 player? If your answer is any more than "never" then NO you cannot use this as an MP3 player because you can't access the volume controls without taking it apart. Plus it has that issue where it randomly does a factory reset and when it does that the volume goes to its highest setting.

@ toby D

Yep! That 2.8" screen device is the exact same one I had in mind to do a comparison with! I'm surprised this seller didn't mention that the little thing on the top that looks like a camera is actually a laser pointer. Even better, check out the reviews on those devices, the laser pointer projects an image of a bear or a robot! There are other alternatives too, but I'm not really considering the JXD 100 because as I said above, it's already been reviewed to death. I'm looking at my options and I might, might do a poll to decide which one I review next.

Actually, I just found this video for the PGP AIO and as it turns out, it uses the same (or VERY similar) firmware as the S200!! The interface is more PSP like, but everything else is exactly the same. So meh, I'm not interested in that one anymore. I'm trying to avoid repeating my mistakes!  :P

All of these makers of the non android based games console's are lazy and just use the same crappy OS that has been around for years and never update it.

I have had my clone PSP for 3 or 4 years and it is identical to the S200! The Android OS has almost killed innovation on non android based console's!

Such a same really as I love playing with these Chinese console's, but if they can't even run GBA games well or have half way decent control's, well it's just pointless buying them!

*Ahem*

And you said innovation is dead...

Nah, just kidding. I agree, innovation has gone down ever since Android exploded on the scene. But I like that they still experiment with form factor and the layout of the hardware. Which brought us stuff like the S200.

"Stereo Sound"

Yeah, right.

I do see that there are some screenshots of Pokemon games on there. Can anyone confirm if these are the weirdly named ones I was looking for?

Ooooooohh.

So it's like if they called a game Rock Man instead of Mega Man?

Yes, but the original game was actually called rockman, so it would be like translating it to rocking man :)

The S200 is back!!!

It's under the proper name for the company now, Subor. In my review I incorrectly called the company "Little Tyrant" that's actually the name of their Famiclone system, not the company name.

I like their description. I guess if you're not going to improve the device, at least be honest. Or maybe they saw my review!

Quote
S200 has two main features is impressive, one feature-rich, audio, video, games, e-book, e-book, recording a lot, as long as your requirements are not particularly high, this product can meet almost anything. Second, this product is very detailed menu settings, set the details of the particular [I didn't end the quote here, that really is where it just stops abruptly -Pardue]

You were actually right in the video, xiaobawang translated literally means little tyrant or little overlord. I especially like how it says eBook twice and how it just assumes you would want to record yourself a lot.

Bit of a disappointment :( I ended up buying an RS1 from deal extreme the other day and the controls are actually quite nice.
