Sega Gopher Firecore - Portable Sega megadrive with 20 built in games and SDCARD

Has anyone got one of these? i just bought one during my trip to taiwan and found them really nice - no savegame feature and degraded sound but the games play without much (if any ) frameskip - all this for less than 50 USD (you can get em for as low as 38 USD or lower in hk i think)

Im just wondering if the firmware is hackable/updateable?  At the moment there is no save game feature (if you save your game it will be lost when you reset) and no save state function - it loads bin files from the SDCARD slot (so far 90 percent of the games work, some have glitches and some dont even work, but for the ones that work they work nice and well, and most games work too!)

This is a really nice little unit, i wish theres some sort of community where at least the ability to save can be implemented in some ways

anybody got one of these too?  :)

not sure why you'd buy one of these and not just get a dingoo. for an extra $30 you get a ridiculous amount more functionality and better emulation of the mega drive itself.

Agreed,
But if it is hackable... then you have six face buttons! Great for arcade games :)

This unit has been around for quite a while actually.  It's not hackable in any way.  Go check out Sega forums, like Sega-16 if you want more information about it.

The general overview of the system is that it's based off of the Firecore emulation used in most Genesis/Mega Drive hardware nowadays (Gopher, RetroGen, GenMobile, etc...).  It's very poor emulation.  You'll find the sound is wrong in many games and certain games (Contra: Hard Corps) are unplayable due to graphic glitches.

actually - i was hunting down for a dingoo in taiwan and  had no luck - found these instead and i thought "ah what the heck, might as well"

to be honest im pretty happy with it, for arcade style sega games (non rpgs due to non save) its pretty good - the sound is not too good but when you are playing outside it doesnt really matter much aniways, i needed something to kill time coz i was stuck in a hospital for more than a week with no internet access (in taiwan) - this really helped to kill time! a 2GB sdcard of roms goes a long way!

I am going to get a dingoo soon (as soon as i see one!) , i was looking for a shop that holds the physical stock of dingoo so i can just pay cash and walk away with it - i hate mail ordering things but maybe i might just buy it online and DHL it to where i am!
