|I never used Android before|
Hi,
today I ordered a Yinlyps ( mostly for the N64 Emulator ) and now I have a few questions :

1.) What about the old versions of the emulators ? Can they be updated now ( with that root thing )
Rooting is not necessary for this, you just install update (this will not overwrite app in firmware, just system will use the newer one not in rom)

You cannot update the stock emulators at all. Even with root you cant. You have to remove them with titanium backup then install the new emulators. After the new ones are installed you can update like normal

Will buttons after update works?

And how about battery life? In movies, audio, browsing, gaming?

Buttons work on all emulators after update you just have to remap them in the settings of each emulator. AS for battery life I am running some tests on it. So far 4 hours on heave heavy use seems to be what Im getting. Battery life can be better when/if new roms or updates allow for more tweaking.

Unfortunately I won't do anything for YPD-G18.
Customs office didn't allow it in Poland due to lack ot proper certificates (CE,Rohs etc).
Guys from buyfromtaobao.com labeled it "Game Console 18$" on customs declariation which most likely caused inspection (for more than a year none of goods labeled as anything close to "electronics" sent from China passed through customs).
Package is on it's way back to buyfromtaobao.

Sb tested a C64 emu ?
And how does e.g. Minecraft pocket work ? Does the app map the buttons itself ?

Can You install some battery manager and look for actual battery capacity and look for exactly what battery lost?

upon doing a closer inspection only a few of the emulators are out of date. The only ones I needed to update were the n64 and nesoid

looks like a firmware update is out if I can trust google translate, either that or it's the original firmware.  http://www.yinlips.com/uploadfile/G18%E8%8A%AF%E9%B8%BF%E5%8D%9A%E6%91%84%E5%83%8F%E5%A4%B4%E8%BD%AF%E4%BB%B6.rar

It seems that new users of the G18 can't install z4root. They launch appinstaller but it doesn't appear anywhere on their SD or flash memory.

Any ideas ?

Why they just install file manager like root explorer, or astro and launch z4root with it?

Hello guys, I don't know if you have noticed that some emulators crash when you update them. (in particular, fpse)

I have good news and bad news about it.
The good news is that I solved the problem, the bad news is that the fix involves poking in the system partition,
which means you could kill your machine by deleting the wrong file.
If you don't feel too sure of yourself, I would recommend moving the files into a temporary folder instead.

Now the explanation:
For some odd reason, the folks at Yinlips thought a good idea to copy some libraries, normally found in application APKs directly into /system/lib.
As far as I can tell, this is completely useless.
Now the problem is that the libraries in /system/lib have priority over ones found in APKs,
so when you update the emulator you use a new application with an old library... BOOOM!
To fix it, you will have to use a root mode file explorer and delete the useless library in /system/lib.

I can confirm that deleting these fix problems with updates:

Fpse:
libfpse.so

PSX4Droid:
libpsx.so

fpse 0.11 is now running just fine on my G18 :)

Other libraries that look to me like they shouldn't be there:
(please note that I haven't deleted them myself yet)

Gensoid:
libgens.so

Snesoid:
libsnes.so
libsnes_comp.so

Ataroid:
libatari.so

nds4droid:
libn4dsdl12.so

Fruit Ninja:
libfruitninja.so

Angry Birds:
libangrybirds.so

Tried to use LD_PRELOAD from a script, to launch those emus?

First we definitely need a Yinlips forum section here ;)

Second has anybody tried if one of the two headphone jacks has maybe also composite video? (with eg. the dingoo tv cable)

Does it support 32GB MicroSD cards?

I guess the USB port is only a slave port (eg. you connect it to the PC, but you cannot connect a keyboard for example)
BTW. does it support bluetooth?

Also do we know what the above update is?
I guess it can be used to  integrate root into the firmware, and make a custom firmware light.

Also we should try to make a FAQ or Wiki for the ydp-g18

32 gig cards work. Composite rca does not work. The 2 headphone jacks work well. No bluetooth no keyboard. I already dumped the complete file system and the deafult recovery img. I was able to add updated emulators to the img file and reflash.

Snes9x ex is free and runs everything great. The are a lot of better emulators available. I will show that in my next video. Updating the N64 from stock to latest fixes a lot of compatibility issues
