Nameless Tablet PC from DealExtreme

Since this one runs Android, it may allow for some nice retro-gaming. The processor apparently is a 600mhz rockchip processor.

Does anyone have any experience with this tablet? Apparently they are sold in Canada under the Rogers brand, but I'm not sure whether they have the exact same hardware. Looks like a very nice tablet for 120 euro and free shipping.

omgmog:
Arm926 isn't an amazing cpu, it clocks at about 200-300mhz,
128mb ram is very poor
2gb nand is very poor
800x480 is nice, but it will look very pixelated on a 7" screen
7" tft is going to have horrible viewing angles and will be near unreadable outside
android 1.5 was terrible, even 1.6 is terrible
1.3mp camera is about worse than most mobile phones

other than that, with android running it's going to be pretty weak for emulation

Meneer Jansen:
It is said that this machine can only download Andoid apps from the Hong Kong site:

* So maybe only Chinese language.
* Chinese internet is very restricted by their government if I'm not mistaken.Upgrading Android on this machine? Maybe the machine's to weak..

A slight update... apparently the pad sold at DealExtreme was not the aPad with a Rockchip processor, and they don't even ship them anymore (out of production).

I did however buy the "real" aPad from TabletStoreUk.com (it's listed there are 7" Android Tablet), with the Rockchip processor. Meaning, if I'm not mistaken, a 600mhz main core, and a 550mhz DSP core. 128MB RAM (from the top of my head), and 2GB of internal storage. I'll let you guys know when I get it, and if it's usable to play anything on. A few sources say it's a capacitive touchscreen (meaning it would support multitouch when upgraded to 2.1, therefore enabling on-screen gaming controls), but many also say resistive in which case any emulators would be out of the question :(

We'll just see what happens. For about 160 euro, it's even a nice thing just as a portable browser / media player.

Yeah that's seriously underpowered for a device like this, especially to support such a high resolution.

What? You know what ram is right?

That system doesn't have any hardware that could properly make use of 128MiB, I'd say it's overkill. Dunno why everyone expects so much ram in embedded systems, too much ram is pretty useless. It's only put in there because RAM is cheap and it's a good way to make performance figures look better, actually does very little.

This would be too much, most systems only need a few mb to hold the firmware, however if this is the only storage (i.e. no SD card slot) then it's far too little. No point in large amounts of built-in flash, most people would prefer something that can be replaced for repeated use.

My monitor is 17" at 1280x1024 and it doesn't look pixelated to me, I think that 800x480 is more than enough especially considering how weak the device is and how it has no graphics processing. Dingoo manages fine with 320x240.

Android only runs java which is slow enough on a good platform, any applications more complex than a calculator will kill this thing.

For the price it's kinda expected, tablets never really have more than a webcam in them. Not really used by most users anyway, kinda like the radio in the Dingoo, to put a more expensive camera in they'd have to guarantee that all the users would appreciate it which is a big assumption for a product at such a low price point.

I've been looking at these things, problem is that most of them are far too weak to do any actual tablet PC stuff, and most use Android or WinCE which is a quick way to turn me off a device.
