No need to "bow out" my friend, some of us have been collecting handhelds since the original Gameboy was released.

Don't sweat it.

Instead, let this be motivational.

Collections like this can be obtained on the relative cheap, here and there, piece by piece, dependant on your scavenging abilities.

Yardsales, craigslist, flea markets, ebay, i've used them all to expand my collection in a relative short time, with  minimum expenditures.

Thanks for starting this thread by the way, it was a marvelous idea. :)

Nah I've had tons of them just got rid of them years ago - wished I kept them now lol..

Anyway the plastic screen cover/lens is a bit scratched so I found someone on ebay with original replacements
from sweden for gameboy pocket silver so I bought one for £2.00  ;D

Nice!

I'm just getting further into customizing some of my Gameboys.
Before i was just refurbishing them with replacement shells, screen covers, back sticker labels and battery covers, but now i see that ebay has replacement button sets in different colors and even glow-in-the-dark.

This is becoming addicting, if it was wasn't already...

Alright, you guys got me wanting to start collecting the more mainstream consoles now. Up until now i've been on the lookout for mostly obscure handhelds. Of course I have the modern handhelds from Ninty and Sony but they're not exactly collectibles..... yet.

Cool, yeah the main body of those mainstream handhelds may not be "collectibles", in the sense that they are
"rare" or worth alot, but if you look those systems up on ebay, you'll see some awesome Japanese variants that never saw the light of day in any other country that are "rare" and valuable.

Take for instance the fine specimens below.
(particularly the classic, GB style Gameboy Pocket, pretty rad...)

I also stumbled upon a clear orange and clear, ice blue variant GBC, wich have me drooling and my paypal account cringing.

Oh, and for the Wonderswan fans, they also have quite a selection that surprised me, and now i'm bidding for a white, Final Fantasy Wonderswan Color bundle, wich looks pretty kick ass.

Take a gander.

Awesome!

Both are good games, particularly Resident Evil Gaiden.

So, how much dough does one need to pony up to acquire said items... Hmmm....?

lol even though I don't have the flasher there still rare... you can get a flasher called a transferer 2 to work with them... I wish I was good at electronics as I would replace the flash with say an microSD slot or even put a mini USB port on the carts  ;D

Man, that'd be sweet.

I'm actually surprised to see that a chinese company hasn't cornered the market on exactly that, a micro-sd enabled GB/GBC cartridge.

I think they'd be surprised on how well they would actually sell.

I'd probably buy at least a dozen, just to make sure my gamer friends and family members get one for x-mas...
Speaking of x-mas, now's a good time to start shopping around for stuff.
It sneaks up real quick if you're not careful...

I saw one of those final fantasy wonderswans new in the box last year at an inport shop. By the time I got back with the money it was gone. Such a shame.
