cheapo 8bit handheld with metroid?
« on: June 07, 2012, 08:09:47 PM »
you all know those cheap chinese pmps with built-in nes games.

do you know of any unit that has metroid on it? it doesnt need saving, so it would be just perfect to have it on a little cheap device!

There is such possibility, most of these are marked as "25000 games" ;)

It's really hard to find decent games on those devices such as metroid, mario bros 3 or so on. They use mostly unlicensed games and their derivatives to claim 9999999 in 1.

There's a PMP (SPMP3530 i think, although not listed by that name) on ebay, ranging from 35-48 bucks. It's a pretty right on rip off of the PSP, although of course, for the price, feels pretty cheap as well, but, it's saving grace is the screen size and remarkably good emulation, for such a cheap device. It plays NES, SNES, GameBoy/GBC/GBA and Sega Mega Drive (aka Genesis), and the ".bin" versions of those MD roms. It may play more types of roms, but i haven't fidgeted with it that much more yet.
I've dabbled in lots of cheaper PMPs, just to mess with or resell for fun, and this one in my opinion is the cream of the gaming-on-a-budget crop. haha :)
Y'know, also something fun for the kids to play around with without worrying about the $70+ you spent on it.

Here's a link to check it out.

Sorry for late reply, but this might be worth checking out.

As emrextreme pointed out, finding one of those consoles with Metroid built-in is highly unlikely. And since they are unpopular, finding comprehensive lists for them before purchase is damn near impossible.
The cheapest 8 bit handhelds I could find were only about $10 cheaper than the one linked earlier. And that one lets you choose the games you want, so Metroid is guaranteed. Not only that, but it will still have use once you have finished Metroid.

I second that. I also recommend getting a Supercard for the Gameboy Micro.
It runs a 2bg micro-sd card, with built in, decent emulation for GB, GBC, NES, Master System, Turbografx-16 and or course, right on the money GBA gameplay.

Sure you can't really save states (at least i haven't figured out how, too much screwing around), but, i think just the ability to play all those games on such a tiny device is well worth the price of admission alone.
Makes me actually want to play my entire GBA capable systems now.

Here's a site that still has them in stock and is paypal friendly:

make sure that you find a mini SD card though. I had a heck of a time finding one.

Here's a site that has them (and tons of others) for dirt cheap.
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/trmeca.html

Also, i've used at least 6 different ones and most of them were able to use a 2gb micro-sd card with a Mini-SD adaptor (2 gb seems to be the largest it can handle, tested w/ 4gb, no go on that).
Recently, each one i've bought online has come with a higher quality "Kingston" Mini-SD adaptor,

I should've mentioned that before, sorry about that.
